Director of Operations – Home Healthcare

Reports To

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Position Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the home healthcare agency to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective patient care. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to clinical and administrative teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, staff development, patient satisfaction, and financial performance.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership
  • Direct and oversee all day-to-day agency operations.
  • Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure efficient coordination of clinical, administrative, scheduling, billing, and support services.
  • Monitor productivity, workflow, and operational performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, patient outcomes, and employee engagement.
Clinical Operations Support
  • Partner with the Director of Nursing and clinical leadership to ensure quality patient care.
  • Support interdisciplinary collaboration among nurses, therapists, social workers, and home health aides.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure timely initiation and continuation of patient services.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing home healthcare.
  • Ensure adherence to Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, OSHA, and accreditation standards.
  • Prepare for state surveys, audits, and accreditation reviews.
  • Develop corrective action plans when necessary.
Financial Management
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Monitor operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Review key financial indicators including revenue, labor costs, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with finance and billing departments to optimize reimbursement and revenue cycle performance.
Staff Leadership
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate management and supervisory staff.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment.
  • Establish performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Support employee retention and professional development initiatives.
Quality Improvement
  • Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Monitor quality indicators, patient outcomes, and incident reports.
  • Analyze operational data and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Promote a culture of patient safety and clinical excellence.
Strategic Planning
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning.
  • Support business growth initiatives, including new service lines and geographic expansion.
  • Build relationships with referral sources, hospitals, physicians, and community partners.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance market presence and patient access.
QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MSN, or related field) preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in home healthcare or healthcare operations.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation and home health regulations.
  • Experience with budgeting, quality improvement, and operational management.
Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare technology.

Preferred Certifications
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) preferred but not required.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus.
