Job Description

Santa Maria or Templeton, California

Criminal Defense Senior Counsel – Santa Maria or Templeton, California

We are continuing to grow and are looking for the right attorney to join our team in our Santa Maria office or our Templeton office.

At Stein-Conaway DUI & Criminal Defense, we believe criminal defense representation can be a pathway to growth and transformation. We are continuing to grow and are looking for the right attorney to join our team in our Santa Maria office or our Templeton office. When our firm represents someone facing criminal charges, they receive more than just a lawyer who shows up in court; they have a team of dedicated advocates standing beside them. We measure success both by the outcomes we have in court and by the experience we create for clients throughout their representation.

What We Offer

  • Total Annual Compensation: Up to $210,000: $150,000 base salary plus the opportunity to earn up to an additional $60,000 in annual performance-based bonuses.

  • 401(k) Profit-Sharing Plan: Our firm's 401(k) helps you invest in your future.

  • Paid Time Off: Includes vacation days, sick leave, and recognized holidays.

  • Healthcare Reimbursement: Up to $500 per month reimbursement for medical expenses.

Meaningful Collaboration. Every Week.

At Stein-Conaway DUI & Criminal Defense, collaboration is not something we simply talk about. It is built into how our attorneys work together every week. As Senior Counsel, you will bring your own substantial experience and judgment to a team that values what you have to contribute while giving you the benefit of other experienced attorneys, strong case-management support, and dedicated time for collaboration.

  • Weekly 1:1 with the Managing Attorney — dedicated time for collaboration, alignment, professional development, feedback, and support.

  • Weekly Attorney Case Strategy Session — deep-dive into complex cases with other experienced criminal defense attorneys, bringing different perspectives and substantial collective courtroom experience to strategy and problem-solving. Your experience and perspective will be an important part of those discussions.

  • Weekly 1:1 Case Management Meeting — dedicated time with our case management support team to look ahead at deadlines, hearings, investigation, and case needs so you can stay ahead rather than being reactive.

  • Weekly All-Firm Meeting — celebrate wins, stay connected to the larger team, and recognize real examples of our values of Excellence, Compassion, and Growth.

You will have ownership of your cases while working within a team of experienced attorneys who value collaboration, the highest level of strategy, and learning from one another.

Why Join Us

We are a high-performing, client-centered team built around three core values:

  • Excellence: Excellence means more than legal knowledge or courtroom ability. It requires preparation, reliability, ownership, thoughtful planning, proactive communication, and consistent follow-through. We expect our attorneys to maintain high professional standards at every stage of a client’s representation.

  • Compassion: Clients are often navigating one of the most stressful periods of their lives. We combine zealous legal advocacy with genuine care for the person we represent, expressed through clear, responsive, and respectful communication.

  • Growth: We value attorneys who approach their work with reflection, ownership, and a continuing desire to improve. Our attorneys welcome thoughtful feedback, learn from mistakes, and continually elevate their performance.

We care about both the quality of the legal representation and the client's experience of that representation. Our goal is for clients to know that they matter, their case matters, their attorneys are prepared, and our law firm is zealously and energetically advocating for them.
