POSITION SUMMARY

The Environment of Care Manager is responsible for the overall safety of the hospital and for hospital operations related to Environment of Care and Life Safety.

The Environment of Care Manager serves on the hospital Safety/Environment of Care Committee and the Hazardous Materials and Waste Subcommittee.

The Environment of Care Manager considers the safety of patients, visitors, and employees from the perspective of the physical environment, work processes, and operational procedures.

The Environment of Care Manager is responsible for oversight of the Maintenance, Housekeeping, Dietary, and Transportation departments, as applicable, for the designated hospital. This position oversees campus maintenance and environmental services operations with a focus on excellence in patient, employee, and family safety.

The Environment of Care Manager is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the physical plant, including the building, grounds, equipment, and all maintenance needs. This position also provides oversight of Environment of Care and Life Safety requirements throughout the hospital.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to high.

The work environment may include exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, mist, and steam generated during housekeeping tasks. This is a smoke-free workplace.

The position requires spending approximately 75% or more of the workday inside a building that provides protection from weather conditions but may not protect against temperature changes.

The employee must provide documentation of a tuberculosis test during new-hire orientation and annually thereafter.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand for moderate periods of time, with standing potentially comprising 60–80% of the work shift.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, including at least four hours.
  • Must be able to walk and stand as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Lifting and carrying may exceed 10 pounds.
  • May be required to perform repetitive tasks and motions.
  • Must be able to hear alarms, telephones, and normal speaking voices.
  • Stress may be present due to a hectic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • The work environment presents inherent risks associated with providing services in an acute behavioral health setting involving psychiatric patients with acute and crisis needs

Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand or hands.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the building trades, with an emphasis on Life Safety and Environment of Care within healthcare settings.

License

None required.

Experience

Three to five years of experience in a hospital, nursing or home health.
