The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process in a fast-paced emergency care environment. The RN performs assessment, triage, treatment, monitoring, patient education, and care coordination for patients across the lifespan.

Essential FunctionsEmergency Nursing Care- Provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process.
- Delivers emergency care across the lifespan.
- Assists providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Performs triage according to established protocols.
- Prioritizes care based on acuity and clinical need.
- Monitors patient condition and communicates significant findings.
- Serves as a patient advocate.
- Provides patient/family education and discharge instructions.
- Maintains confidentiality and supports patient rights.
- Administers medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and policy.
- Monitors patient response and identifies adverse reactions.
- Participate in trauma activations, resuscitations, and emergency response activities.
- Supports workplace violence prevention, disaster response, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
- Facilitates admissions, transfers, referrals, and discharges.
- Coordinates EMTALA-compliant transfers and continuity of care.
- Maintains accurate EHR documentation.
- Supports quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Supports a safe environment through collaboration, de-escalation, and teamwork.
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program
- Current unrestricted West Virginia RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Preferred: One year of emergency nursing experience; TNCC, CEN, or other trauma/emergency certification.
