Job Description
RoCon Construction is seeking a Commercial Construction Estimator to support the pre-construction and pursuit of commercial construction projects. This position is responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates while working closely with the project team, trade partners, and ownership to understand project scope, identify risks, and establish a clear plan for successful execution.
The Estimator should be detail-oriented, analytical, and confident in making sound decisions. This position requires someone who can read and understand construction documents, ask the right questions, identify potential issues before they become problems, and communicate clearly with both internal and external partners.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, understands commercial construction, and can balance accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
● Review plans, specifications, drawings, and other construction documents to develop complete project estimates.
● Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and trade partner pricing.
● Solicit and evaluate subcontractor, supplier, and vendor pricing.
● Develop clear and accurate estimates based on project scope and available information.
● Identify scope gaps, conflicts, exclusions, and potential risks during the estimating process.
● Work with the Field Operations and Project Management teams to evaluate constructibility, logistics, sequencing, and project requirements.
● Participate in pre-construction meetings and site visits as needed.
● Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to clarify scope and pricing.
● Compare and evaluate trade partner proposals to ensure complete and appropriate coverage of project scope.
● Maintain organized estimating documentation and supporting information.
● Assist in developing project schedules, procurement considerations, and other preconstruction information when appropriate.
● Prepare proposals and other documents required for project pursuits.
● Participate in turnover of awarded projects to the Project Management and Field Operations teams.
● Maintain awareness of market conditions, labor availability, material costs, and trade partner pricing.
● Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
● Follow RoCon estimating and preconstruction processes and standards.
Qualifications
● Experience in commercial construction estimating, project management, field operations, or a related construction position.
● Strong understanding of commercial construction means, methods, materials, and sequencing.
● Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
● Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
● Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to communicate professionally with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
● Proficient with computers and comfortable learning and utilizing construction estimating and project management technology.
● Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Position Expectations
The Estimator is expected to take ownership of the estimating process from initial document review through project turnover. The goal is not simply to produce a number, but to develop an estimate that accurately reflects the scope, cost, risks, and requirements of the project.
