Instrument & Controls Technician, Solar

The Instrument and Controls Specialist is responsible to support execute and provide configuration and maintenance services for the Process Control System and other automation systems at the Enel Green Power Facilities for Solar assets. Ensure facility controls automation and machinery function safely, efficiently, reliably and within budgetary limits, utilizing allocated resources, with the objective of meeting business goals for production while minimizing unscheduled equipment down time. Provide day-to-day maintenance activities and provide mentoring/coaching to less experienced employees.

What you will do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Monitor site performance via SCADA, Remote Desktop and SAP
• Provide all weather station, trackers, UPS, PC, Switch, Modem, PLC, HMI, AC system onsite preventative maintenance associated with the plant process control systems to comply with regulation, best practice, contractual, and business needs.
• Have working knowledge of solid-state circuitry and programmable controllers.
• Be able to work with various PC programs and operating systems.
• Perform calibration, preventive maintenance and testing of equipment.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose problems and repair plant mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
• Responsible for providing onsite services for all Controls Systems on the Process Control Network.
• Responsible for performance and maintaining 24x7 uptime of Control Systems including parts consumption system support and communications to Control Systems and other associated devices.
• Responsible for Process Control PLC SCADA channels including hardware and software communication.
• Responsible overall performance and maintenance of controllers that process and control many of the field devices for the operation of the facility including I/O and related system components that connect field devices to the Control Systems.
• Responsible for a full network of fiber optic communications for data flow from package systems around the facilities to send and receive data to and from the Control Systems for operations control and monitoring 24 hours a day.
• Responsible for supporting the Logistics Department with Process Control Related spare parts identification and ideal stocking rates.
• Maintain system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis and create service desk tickets for performance tuning by Digital Hub; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems; designing and running system load/stress testing; escalating application problems to vendors as needed.
• Provide system support for operations on control strategies.
• Responsible for supporting development of training needed for process control and other systems for maintenance and repairs of system to maintain reliability and performance.
• Lead or assist troubleshooting efforts associated with the Safety Systems (e.g. Fire Systems, Security, Camera) to minimize production upsets and/or downtime.
• Review changes to technical controls and determine appropriate actions to take to maintain compliance and ensure proper documentation and EGP processes are followed and communicated to all parties.
• Provide desktop support and work on all plant process control systems, assisting operations with desktop support issues, while following up to ensure problems solved.

What you will bring

• High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
• 3+ years of industrial automation experience in the Energy Sector or similar business, utilizing complex Control Systems.
• Industrial automation experience in the Energy Sector or similar business, utilizing complex Control Systems: E.g.- SCADA, Ladder Logic (PLC), etc.
• Networking experience, Windows, Linux, DOS, C++
• Communication bus, IOT experience
• Comprehensive experience in the operation and maintenance of Control Systems.
• Must have a good understanding and be familiar with ESD systems, PLC's, control systems, and UPS systems.
• Must also have comprehensive experience in the Instrumentation field with a strong knowledge base of field instrumentation, fire, vibration switches/transducers, PLC's and SCADA systems.
• Experience with plant shutdown/turnaround activities.
• Must possess Strong PC skills to perform calibration and testing on various types of equipment, should be familiar with and able to use and be competent in using MS Word, Excel, Visio, SAP, CMD, Linux, Windows, Terminal, etc.
• Good written/verbal technical communication skill.
• Good analytical problem-solving skills, including root cause failure.

• Experience in reading and understanding P&ID and MF drawings including Cause & Effect drawings.
• Understanding of Vendor/Equipment supplied data sheets
• Understand Instrument & Electrical drawings and ladder logic.

• Minimum of 3 years of control systems experience in either installation and commissioning, or design, maintenance and operations.
• Good communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
• Valid state driver's license
• NFPA 70 E Trained, Familiar with Electrical PPE and it's use
• Experience working with Microsoft Word, Project and Excel
• IT Tool Knowledge required: SAP, SAP PM, Power BI
• Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders, stairs, and perform comprehensive site inspections.

Preferred:

• Associates/Tech. Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Automation Technology
• 3+ years of industrial automation experience in the Renewable Energy Sector or similar business, utilizing complex Control Systems: E.g. - SCADA, Ladder Logic (PLC), etc.
