Job Summary

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist 1 supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of workplace safety, environmental compliance, and employee health programs. This role helps ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, promotes a proactive safety culture, conducts inspections, maintains required records, and partners with operations, maintenance, and leadership to identify and reduce risk.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Under the direction of corporate EHS Director, the candidate will develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, procedures, and work instructions in alignment with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Standardizes HSE Management of Change practices onsite to manage process safety and equipment onboarding.
  • Conduct routine workplace inspections, job hazard analyses to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, track and verify effectiveness. 
  • Coordinate, deliver, and document EHS training, including new hire orientation, PPE, hazard communication, emergency response, lockout/tagout, forklift safety, ergonomics, and other required topics.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, property damage, spills, and environmental incidents.
  • Maintain required training, safety and environmental records, inspection and waste disposal logs, SDSs, and other regulatory documentation as required.
  • Support compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, local fire authority, hazardous waste coordination/management, stormwater, air quality, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections, contractors, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate/perform emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation drills, spill response readiness, first aid supplies, and emergency action plan updates.
  • Partner with supervisors and employees to reinforce safe work practices and encourage employee participation in safety programs and committees.
  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support facility maintenance, chemical inventory management, hazardous waste handling, and environmental sustainability initiatives as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • One to three years of experience supporting environmental, health, and safety programs in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, confidentiality, integrity, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to lift 25 lb. This role requires wear of personal protective equipment and passing of an initial and annual OSHA-compliant respirator medical evaluation and fit test.
  • Ability to work cross-collaboratively with employees, supervisors, managers.

Preferred Skills

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction certification.
  • HAZWOPER, DOT hazardous manifests, or other relevant EHS training credentials.
  • Experience with EHS management systems, safety databases, incident reporting and corrective action tracking. 
  • Regulatory awareness and compliance mindset.
  • Hazard recognition and problem solving.
  • Continuous improvement and accountability 


Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.


Physical Requirements

  • Work may be performed in office, chemical process/manufacturing, warehouse, wastewater treatment, or outdoor environments. 
  • May require walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, and conducting inspections in manufacturing.
  • May require occasional off-shift support, overtime, or response to safety or environmental incidents.


Working Conditions

  • Work performed indoors in environmentally controlled environments with temperatures ranging from 66°ree;F to 90°ree;F. 
  • Exposure to hazardous material.
  • Required use of PPE including smocks, gloves, hairnets/full face covers, shoe covers, and safety‑toed footwear.
  • While performing the duties of this job, will regularly be exposed to moving high-speed machinery and mechanical parts. Will occasionally be exposed to machine oils and hazardous materials. 
  • Occasional travel is required to local suppliers.
