About this job
Job Description
It’s 7:00 a.m. on a customer site in your region. You connect to a newly energized control cabinet, bring up the HMI, and establish a clean handshake with the PLC. By mid-morning you’re running end-to-end hardware checks across adapter cells, storage modules, and safety interlocks. After lunch, you fine-tune system behavior to align with the customer’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), validate performance against the Scope of Work, and use diagnostic utilities to chase down a stubborn I/O fault. By evening, you’ve logged results, collaborated with software and electrical teammates, and prepared the system for tomorrow’s integration tests.
Role overviewAs a field-based Integration and Commissioning expert, you will start up, commission, and test PLC-controlled equipment and integrate complete systems at customer facilities. You’ll work side-by-side with electrical technicians to bring up control cabinets, load and configure PLC/HMI software, and execute functional, performance, and safety tests to confirm readiness for go-live.
This is a remote, field role supporting regional commissioning projects. We’re hiring across the U.S. (East, Central, West). Team members are based in their respective time zones to collaborate effectively on-site, with regular travel across the assigned region.
What you’ll make happen- Commission HMI systems and build robust, reliable communications with PLCs across customer environments.
- Run complete hardware tests and verify performance against project specifications and industry standards.
- Execute functional testing to ensure seamless integration with the customer’s WMS; tune as needed to meet requirements.
- Use advanced diagnostics to rapidly identify and resolve hardware and software issues, protecting project timelines.
- Start up, commission, and test PLC-controlled equipment at customer locations, meeting quality and schedule targets.
- Validate integration of Symbotic adapter cells, storage systems, and safety subsystems with customer WMS interfaces.
- Perform tasks defined in the Commissioning Services SOW: control cabinet startup, software loading, configuration, and performance validation.
- Collaborate with engineering, software, and customer support through go-live to ensure a smooth handoff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- PLC/HMI experience with Rockwell Automation/Allen‑Bradley or Siemens; PanelView Plus exposure.
- Robotics familiarity (e.g., ABB, Fanuc) and industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET).
- Ability to read electrical drawings; basic SQL and relational database knowledge.
- Comfort in Linux and Windows environments.
- Hands-on with motion control (e.g., VFDs) is a plus.
- Competence in remote support tools (Remote Desktop, SSH, modern web browsers).
- Team-first mindset, strong prioritization, calm under pressure.
- Remote, field-based position; regular regional travel required, up to 75%.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations.
- Maintain a personal credit card and manage expenses for bi-weekly reimbursement.
- Main office is in Wilmington, MA; extended on-site work at customer installation locations when equipment is ready for commissioning.
- Frequent walking and reaching; standing, climbing/balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Comfort working at heights up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas as narrow as 24 inches.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols (including Lockout/Tagout and fall protection).
- Approx. 75% of time on construction sites with PPE required (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eye/ear protection, fall protection such as a harness).
- Routinely climb steep stairs to access the automation structure; frequent stair travel.
- Regular proximity to railings at elevation.
- Work in protected but non‑conditioned areas; capable of 32°ree;–105°ree;F.
- Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen‑Bradley, Fanuc, Siemens) and related HMI platforms
