Surgical Technologist - Operating Room

Job Summary

Prepares the operating room and sterile field and functions as the scrub person during surgical procedures. Assembles instruments, supplies and equipment, and passes instrumentation to the surgical team while maintaining strict aseptic technique. Participates in surgical counts and specimen handling to support patient safety.

Education & Experience

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program: Required
• Operating room or perioperative experience: Preferred

Licenses & Certifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, sterile field, instruments, supplies and equipment for each procedure.
• Function as the scrub person, passing instruments and supplies to the surgical team.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and monitor the sterile field for breaks in sterility.
• Perform and verify instrument, sponge and sharps counts with the circulating nurse.
• Handle and label surgical specimens according to policy.
• Assist with room turnover, decontamination and preparation of instrumentation for sterilization.
