Job Description

QBO Plus Payroll Elite is seeking a Staff Product Designer to help shape thoughtful, user-centered experiences for payroll and related product journeys.

Position Summary

As a Staff Product Designer, you will lead end-to-end design work for complex product experiences—from discovery and concepting through to validation and iteration. You will partner closely with product and engineering teams to translate customer needs into clear, compelling designs that improve usability, accessibility, and business outcomes.

You will also act as a design leader within the team, mentoring designers and helping raise the bar for craft, consistency, and design decision-making across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design strategy for product features and flows, aligning user needs with product goals and technical constraints.

  • Conduct and synthesize user research, competitive insights, and qualitative/customer signals to inform design decisions.

  • Create and refine end-to-end design solutions, including interaction concepts, visual design, and detailed experience specifications.

  • Partner with product managers and engineers to ensure smooth implementation and to iterate based on usability feedback and results.

  • Mentor and coach other designers, contributing to design standards, critiques, and continuous improvement of the design process.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating product design work across end-to-end experiences and measurable outcomes.

  • Proven ability to lead complex design problems from ambiguity to well-defined solutions.

  • Expertise in user-centered design practices, including research synthesis and translating insights into requirements and experiences.

  • Solid collaboration skills, with experience partnering effectively across product, engineering, and design stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in communicating design rationale clearly through artifacts, presentations, and structured decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on B2C or finance-adjacent products where trust, clarity, and usability are critical.

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring designers or contributing to design systems and scalable interaction patterns.

  • Familiarity with accessibility considerations and inclusive design practices for diverse user needs.

  • Comfort evaluating design performance through user feedback and iterative testing approaches.
