About this job

The Director of Benefits provides strategic leadership for Transdev’s U.S. benefits programs, including health and welfare and well-being plans supporting a large, geographically dispersed workforce across more than 350 locations. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), this role is responsible for benefits strategy and plan design, financial and claims analysis, vendor management, compliance, communications, administration, and continuous improvement. This position is based in Lombard, IL.

This leader will balance employee value, market competitiveness, financial sustainability, regulatory requirements, and operational effectiveness while actively managing the Company's significant investment in employee benefits. The Director will use healthcare claims, utilization, actuarial, market, and financial data to identify opportunities, manage risk, improve plan performance, and develop recommendations for senior leadership.

The Director leads and develops the Benefits team and serves as the Company's subject-matter expert, partnering closely with HR, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Payroll, HRIS, Communications, operations, brokers, consultants, and benefit providers. The role also supports acquisitions, integrations, new business opportunities, and other organizational changes.

A strategic, analytical, and collaborative benefits leader with strong business and financial acumen who can translate complex benefits and healthcare data into clear recommendations and measurable results. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision with operational discipline, has excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills, and is comfortable influencing senior leaders in a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Competitive compensation package of minimum $155,000 – maximum $195,000 and an annual bonus potential.

Benefits include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year U.S. benefits strategy aligned with business and Total Rewards objectives.
  • Lead the design and ongoing management of health, welfare, and well-being programs for union and non-union employees.
  • Own benefits financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year cost modeling.
  • Analyze claims, utilization, healthcare trends, and financial data to identify cost drivers and develop cost-management strategies.
  • Develop business cases and recommendations for senior leadership related to benefit plan design, funding, affordability, and employee value.
  • Lead benefits administration and operational excellence across 350+ locations, with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, technology, and employee experience.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, consultants, brokers, third-party administrators, and other benefit partners, including procurement, negotiations, and performance management.
  • Establish benefits KPIs, dashboards, and reporting to monitor financial performance, utilization, service, participation, and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable benefits laws and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS, and Department of Labor requirements.
  • Lead benefits communications and education, including annual enrollment and year-round employee engagement.
  • Provide strategic benefits leadership for acquisitions, integrations, and other organizational changes.
  • Lead, develop, and build the capabilities of a high-performing Benefits team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field required; advanced degree or Benefits/Total Rewards certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate benefits, Total Rewards, or benefits consulting, including leadership experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Strong expertise in U.S. health and welfare benefits; experience with large, self-insured health plans strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with healthcare claims, utilization, actuarial analysis, financial modeling, and benefits cost management.
  • Experience supporting union and non-union populations strongly preferred.
  • Proven success managing vendors, procurement, negotiations, contracts, and service performance.
  • Experience with benefits technology, HRIS/payroll interfaces, eligibility and enrollment, and process improvement.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or benefits harmonization preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS, Department of Labor, and other applicable benefits regulations.
