Baker – The Bagel Shop by Fox's
Location: 360 Park Avenue, Rochester, NY Job Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Reports to: Kitchen Manager and Owners
Position Summary
We're looking for a skilled and reliable Baker to join our opening kitchen team. This role is responsible for producing bagels, breads, and other baked goods to Fine Bagels' quality standards, while strictly following kosher and dairy/pareve separation protocols. The ideal candidate has hands-on bakery experience, works well under time pressure, and takes ownership of consistency and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Mix, shape, boil, and bake bagels according to established recipes and quality standards
- Prepare breads and other baked goods, including dairy-free items, following strict allergen and kosher separation procedures
- Monitor proofing, boiling, and baking times to ensure consistent texture, color, and taste
- Maintain accurate production counts to meet daily retail, catering, and wholesale demand.
- Follow all kosher kitchen protocols, including proper separation of dairy and pareve equipment, ingredients, and workspaces
- Inspect ingredients and finished products for quality and freshness
- Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safety-compliant workstation
- Properly label, store, and rotate ingredients and finished products (FIFO)
- Operate and perform basic maintenance/cleaning on bakery equipment (mixers, ovens, boiling kettles, proofers)
- Communicate production issues, ingredient shortages, or equipment problems to the Kitchen Manager promptly
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to hit early-morning production deadlines
Qualifications
- Prior baking or bakery production experience required; bagel-making experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with kosher dietary laws and dairy/pareve separation preferred (training provided if needed)
- Ability to work early morning hours, including some weekends and holidays as needed
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs (flour bags, dough troughs, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and consistency
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a small team
- Food handler's certification (or willingness to obtain one)
Schedule
Early morning shifts, typically starting before dawn to ensure fresh product for opening. Specific schedule to be discussed based on availability and business needs.
