Hospital PST

We are seeking a dependable and service-focused Hospital Patient Service Technician to coordinate durable medical equipment (DME) needs for patients transitioning from the hospital to their home.

This position works closely with hospital discharge planners, physicians, home care staff, patients, and families to help ensure equipment needs are identified, documentation is completed, and patients receive the education and support needed for a successful transition home.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Communicate with hospital discharge planning staff and home care staff regarding patients' durable medical equipment needs.
• Identify and prioritize patient and family needs, including any special equipment or service requirements.
• Help facilitate a smooth transition and continuity of care from the hospital setting to the patient's home.
• Serve as a communication link between hospital departments, home care providers, physicians, patients, and families.
• Under physician orders, provide patients with information regarding prescribed durable medical equipment and obtain the documentation necessary for billing.
• Educate patients and caregivers on the proper application, use, care, and expected outcomes of equipment according to physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations.
• Ensure required documentation is obtained and completed in accordance with payer requirements, company procedures, and compliance standards.
• Coordinate patient scheduling, equipment orders, education, delivery, and follow-up courtesy calls.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard confidential information at all times.
• Address patient and customer concerns in accordance with company policy and promptly notify management of issues outside the scope of the position.
• Clean and properly process returned equipment in the designated area on a daily basis.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Two (2) years of medical or healthcare experience preferred.
• Previous experience with durable medical equipment and equipment application preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently required to sit and use hands and fingers to handle or operate equipment and materials.
• Regularly required to talk, hear, and see.
• Frequent walking is required and may include walking up and down stairs.
