Job Description
(Houma, LA): Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a skilled CNC Machine Operator to operate CNC lathes and milling machines in a heavy manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and 3–5 years of CNC machining experience, preferably with 2-axis lathes. A high school diploma or GED is required.
Essential Duties:
• Operate CNC machines, including lathes and milling machines, with minimal supervision while maintaining quality standards.
• Load parts, prove programs, operate machine controls, set offsets, perform advanced edits, deburr parts, and inspect finished products.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, machining sequences, and setup requirements.
• Measure and mark dimensions and reference points on materials and workpieces.
• Detect equipment malfunctions and out-of-tolerance machining; make appropriate machine or control adjustments within capabilities and report malfunctions to the supervisor.
• Operate forklifts and lifting devices to safely move parts and materials.
• Assist with complex plant operating problems and cost-reduction projects.
• Assist in training other employees as needed.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality personnel, and other shop employees to resolve machining and quality issues.
• Maintain clean and orderly equipment and work areas and perform basic preventative maintenance functions.
• Follow applicable laws, quality procedures, company policies, and safety and environmental regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements/Skills:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of experience operating CNC machines; experience with 2-axis lathes is highly preferred.
• Experience with Mazak machines is highly preferred.
• CNC machining experience in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
• Knowledge of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales.
• Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other machining accessories.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications, including an advanced understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra.
• Ability to operate a forklift and lifting devices for movement of parts.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, as required for the position.
• Strong work ethic with reliable and punctual attendance.
• Demonstrated employment stability and consistent work history.
• Ability to adapt to changing work environments, competing demands, delays, and unexpected events.
• Willingness and ability to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.
• Must be available for an approximately 53-hour standard work week: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–6:00 PM; Friday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM; and some Saturdays, 6:00 AM–12:00 PM.
• Must be available for an in-person interview.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and work around CNC machinery for extended periods.
• Ability to safely handle and position parts and materials using appropriate lifting devices.
• Ability to operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment.
• Ability to perform repetitive machining, measuring, deburring, and inspection tasks.
• Ability to work safely in a heavy manufacturing environment while wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to work extended hours and occasional Saturdays as required by production schedules.
