Flexible / On-Call / Fill-In Position
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is seeking a dependable, compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support adults with developmental disabilities in Carpinteria and the greater Santa Barbara area.
This is a flexible, on-call position designed for someone who would like to pick up additional shifts as they become available. There are no guaranteed weekly hours or fixed schedule, making this a great opportunity for someone seeking supplemental income, flexible work, or hands-on experience in caregiving, human services, social services, or behavioral health.
What You'll Do
As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide person-centered support that helps adults with developmental disabilities maintain independence, participate in their community, and work toward their individual goals.
Responsibilities may include:
- Provide companionship, encouragement, and individualized support
- Assist clients with daily living skills and routines
- Support participation in community activities, appointments, errands, and outings
- Encourage independence, communication, socialization, and personal development
- Help maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment
- Follow individualized care or support plans
- Observe and communicate changes, concerns, or important information to appropriate staff
- Provide transportation or accompany clients in the community when required
- Maintain professional boundaries and respect client privacy and dignity
Schedule
This is an on-call / fill-in position with shifts offered based on client and staffing needs.
Available shifts may include:
- Mornings
- Afternoons
- Evenings
- Weekends
- Overnight shifts
There are no guaranteed hours. Candidates with flexible availability will have the greatest opportunity to pick up shifts.
Qualifications
- Compassionate, patient, dependable, and respectful
- Comfortable working independently and adapting to different client needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license preferred
- Previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, caregiving, behavioral health, or human services is helpful but not required
- Ability to follow individualized support plans and safety procedures
- Dependable attendance and willingness to accept shifts when available
Experience Is Helpful, But We Will Train the Right Person
Experience as a Direct Support Professional, caregiver, personal care attendant, behavioral aide, home care aide, residential counselor, or community support worker is a plus, but we welcome dependable candidates who are interested in learning.
Training will be provided.
