Job Description

As a Concrete Site Superintendent, you will oversee the day-to-day field operations of concrete construction projects, with a primary focus on sidewalks, curb and gutter, ADA improvements, ramps, driveways, flatwork, and public works projects.


The Site Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating crews, subcontractors, materials, equipment, inspections, and project schedules to ensure work is completed safely, correctly, on schedule, and in accordance with plans, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable city, county, and agency standards.


The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on knowledge of concrete construction and experience managing public works projects from layout and preparation through forming, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and final completion.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise concrete construction activities for sidewalks, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, driveways, concrete flatwork, pedestrian improvements, and other public works projects.
  • Oversee projects from initial mobilization through final completion and punch list.
  • Manage and coordinate concrete crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment.
  • Read and interpret project plans, specifications, details, and contract documents.
  • Coordinate and verify layout, elevations, grades, slopes, dimensions, and ADA requirements.
  • Coordinate demolition, excavation, grading, base preparation, forming, reinforcing, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and cleanup activities.
  • Ensure proper preparation of subgrade and aggregate base prior to concrete placement.
  • Coordinate concrete deliveries and placement to ensure crews, equipment, and materials are ready for scheduled pours.
  • Monitor concrete placement, finishing, joints, slopes, grades, and overall workmanship.
  • Ensure sidewalks, ramps, curb and gutter, and other concrete improvements are constructed according to approved plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate required inspections with city, county, public works agencies, inspectors, engineers, and other project representatives.
  • Manage subcontractors and ensure their work meets project requirements, quality standards, and schedule expectations.
  • Create, maintain, and update project schedules.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to maintain production and meet deadlines.
  • Order project materials and perform material takeoffs for concrete, aggregate base, reinforcing steel, forming materials, and other construction materials.
  • Review material invoices, delivery tickets, and quantities for accuracy.
  • Track material usage and identify potential shortages or cost overruns.
  • Assist with project budgeting and monitor job costs.
  • Assist with selecting and coordinating subcontractors and vendors.
  • Obtain and coordinate required city, county, and agency permits as needed.
  • Maintain quality control throughout the project and identify deficiencies before inspections or final completion.
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts, unforeseen conditions, and construction issues.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, production quantities, manpower records, material records, and project documentation.
  • Enforce company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable jobsite safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
  • Conduct or participate in daily/weekly jobsite meetings and coordinate upcoming work activities.
  • Communicate project status, manpower needs, material requirements, schedule concerns, and field issues to project management.
  • Oversee punch-list work and coordinate final cleanup and project closeout.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Candidate Requirements


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in concrete construction and public works.
  • Hands-on experience with sidewalks, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, driveways, flatwork, and related concrete improvements.
  • Experience supervising concrete crews and subcontractors.
  • Experience working on city, county, municipal, or other public works projects.
  • Strong understanding of concrete construction processes, including:
    • Demolition and removal
    • Excavation and grading
    • Subgrade and aggregate base preparation
    • Formwork
    • Reinforcing steel
    • Concrete placement
    • Concrete finishing
    • Saw cutting and joints
    • Curing
    • Cleanup and punch-list work
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, details, and agency standards.
  • Ability to understand and verify grades, elevations, slopes, dimensions, and ADA requirements.
  • Experience performing material takeoffs and ordering construction materials.
  • Ability to review concrete delivery tickets and material invoices.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple crews, subcontractors, deliveries, inspections, and work activities.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.


Qualifications


Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction, Engineering, or a related field; or
  • High school diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years of relevant concrete or construction experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in concrete construction, public works, or general engineering construction preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Concrete Foreman, General Foreman, Site Superintendent, Superintendent, or similar position.
  • Experience supervising concrete crews and subcontractors.
  • Experience with sidewalks, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, driveways, flatwork, and public works improvements.
  • Experience reading plans and specifications and coordinating work based on project requirements.
  • Experience with material takeoffs, material ordering, and construction scheduling.

  • Attention to Detail – Ability to carefully review plans, elevations, grades, slopes, dimensions, concrete quantities, material requirements, and completed work.
  • Problem Solving – Ability to identify field issues and develop practical solutions while keeping projects on schedule.
  • Dependability – Ability to consistently meet project commitments, deadlines, and responsibilities.


Physical Requirements

  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employees may be required to drive.
  • The position requires frequent standing and walking on active construction sites and may require the employee to sit, use hands to handle or operate tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Employees must be able to communicate effectively through speaking and hearing and work safely in varying weather and construction-site conditions.
  • Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception vision are required.
