Motor Grader Operator

The Diamond B Motor Grader Operator operates grader to spread and level dirt, gravel, and stone, to grade specifications in construction projects, such as highways, streets and temporary roads. The Grader operator drives the machine and moves levers to regulate height and angle of grader blade, loosens packed soil to permit grading, and to tilt front wheels of grader when making sharp turns.

The Operator drives the grader in successive passes over working area, observing reference stakes or hand signals of assisting worker, to level surface to specified grade. The ability to feel levers and listen to the sound of the engine to determine depth of cut is critical. The Motor Grader Operator will perform either rough grade finishing with the ability to learn or fine grade finishing, spreading and mixing materials on roadway.

The Diamond B Motor Grader Operator must be able to understand grades and have knowledge of plans and drawings and overall road construction. The operator reports to the Superintendent and must have good judgment in order to perform complicated tasks.  Skilled operators are constantly alert and observant of their surroundings. Grader operators must be able to work closely with others but without constant supervision.
