Operations Manager – Transportation & Logistics
PrideStaff Financial is partnering with a premier Sacramento-based transportation company to hire a full-time, direct-hire Operations Manager.
The Operations Manager serves as the vital link between company leadership, customers, business development, dispatch, safety/compliance, and drivers on the road. This role oversees a critical service territory extending from Redding to Bakersfield within California’s Central Valley.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on leadership experience in transportation, logistics, and safety compliance, combined with excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
Position Overview

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Logistics
- Oversee daily transport of bulk/aviation fuel, heavy equipment hauling, and complex logistics.
- Optimize load planning and routing efficiency while providing real-time responses to after-hours emergencies or delays.
- Direct dispatch schedules, job duties, and customer deliveries to align staffing levels with demand while minimizing overtime.
- Manage and mentor dispatchers, drivers, and operational staff through coaching, performance reviews, and active leadership.
Safety, Compliance & Regulatory Standards
- Enforce strict compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, Hazmat, and California state transport standards.
- Maintain critical documentation, ensuring current permits, driver qualifications, and truck binders are accurate.
- Monitor regulatory logs, including Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Devices (ELD).
- Lead safety initiatives, including conducting safety meetings, leading incident investigations, and tracking compliance metrics (such as CSA scores).
Fleet & Maintenance Management
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to maximize vehicle readiness and minimize operational downtime.
- Apply knowledge of DOT inspection standards to oversee pre-trip, post-trip, annual inspections, and official Out-of-Service criteria.
- Prioritize equipment repairs strategically based on active operational demands, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Track maintenance trends across Class 8 tractors, tank trailers, flatbeds, and heavy-duty equipment.
Financial & Client Relations
- Manage budget controls, cost reduction strategies, and payroll/billing accuracy to improve overall revenue and operational efficiency.
- Communicate professionally with clients to resolve issues swiftly and partner with sales to support regional business growth.
? Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in operations, transportation, logistics, or fuel distribution.
- 24/7 dispatch management experience is highly preferred.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
- Deep knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations, hazardous materials transportation, and fleet operations.
- Heavy equipment permitting and routing experience is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams); experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), dispatch, or fleet software is a plus.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and general accounting/billing procedures is preferred.

- Superb communication skills, including professional email etiquette, proper grammar, and experience handling multi-line phone systems.
- Fast-paced decision-making skills, with a proven ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and implement strategic process improvements.
- Strong administrative skills, including a preferred typing speed of 50 WPM and rapid mastery of new software tools.
