Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking experienced Traveling Electricians to support electrical installation of conveyor and automated material handling systems in large-scale warehouse and distribution center environments.
The Electrician will perform hands-on electrical installation, wiring, termination, troubleshooting, testing, and startup activities associated with conveyor systems and related equipment. This is a travel position, with projects located throughout the United States.
The ideal candidate has experience working in industrial, commercial, warehouse, distribution center, conveyor, or automated material handling environments and is comfortable working on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Install electrical systems and components for conveyor and automated material handling equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation layouts.
- Install and terminate:
- Conveyor motors and motor connections
- Electrical panels and control panels
- Disconnects and junction boxes
- Conduit and cable tray
- EMT and other raceway systems
- Control wiring
- Sensors and photo-eyes
- Power distribution and branch circuits
- Low-voltage control and communication wiring
- Perform wire pulling, routing, labeling, termination, and testing.
- Install and connect motors, sensors, photo-eyes, switches, and other field devices.
- Assist with conveyor startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
- Identify and troubleshoot electrical installation issues in the field.
- Work closely with mechanical installers, foremen, supervisors, and other trades to coordinate installation activities.
- Verify installations are completed according to drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Complete punch-list items and assist with final system turnover.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all OSHA, site-specific, and project safety requirements.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Maintain a professional attitude and strong work ethic while working on customer sites.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of electrical installation experience in commercial, industrial, construction, conveyor, or material handling environments.
- Conveyor or automated material handling experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in warehouse, distribution center, manufacturing, or industrial facilities preferred.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Experience with conduit, cable tray, wire pulling, electrical panels, motor connections, control wiring, and electrical terminations.
- Familiarity with conveyor electrical systems, motors, sensors, photo-eyes, and control components.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger installation crew.
- Ability to work at heights and in an active construction environment.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Forklift, scissor lift, or aerial lift certification is a plus.
- Journeyman-level electrical experience or electrical license is preferred, depending on project requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel extensively throughout the United States.
Travel Requirements
- 100% travel required.
- Projects may range from several weeks to several months depending on project scope.
- Must be willing to work away from home for extended periods.
- Typical schedules may include overtime, weekends, and extended shifts based on project requirements.
- Travel arrangements, lodging, and per diem are provided according to project terms.
Work Environment
- Large-scale warehouse and distribution center construction environments
- Active construction sites with conveyor and automated material handling equipment
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders/stairs, and working at heights
- May work around moving equipment, elevated conveyor, electrical systems, and other active construction activities
- Ability to lift and handle electrical materials and equipment
- Must follow all site-specific safety requirements and maintain a strong focus on jobsite safety
