Adjunct Instructor - Writing Center Specialist (Part Time)

This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired to assist students on a semester-by-semester basis.
The anticipated start date of this position will be throughout the academic year, with some initial appointments in September 2026.
The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F-1 EADs, OPT, H1B, etc. Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing Required Education: Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, History, Social Sciences, or a related field. Required Work Experience: One year of experience involving tutoring and/or teaching at the K-12 and/or college level.
Experience working with diverse student populations, including ESL. Required Licenses and Certifications: Physical Demands:
Schedule appointments that meet students' needs.
Train/mentor other writing center specialists.
Coordinate writing workshops with assistance of the director.
Provide input to the specialists' team and director on innovative tutoring/teaching methods/modalities.
Keep abreast of current writing center theory and practice.
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

FLSA: Non-Exempt Temporary/Continuing: Continuing Part-Time/Full-Time: Part-Time Union Group: Ferris Nontenure-Track Faculty Organization (FNTFO) (AFT) Term of Position: 9 Month At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause Summary of Position: Writing Center Specialists provide writing consultation (on-site and electronic/digital) to undergraduate and graduate students for 10 to 28 hours per week. The successful applicant will be familiar with APA and MLA documentation and must be comfortable working one-on-one with a diverse student population representing a full range of majors and writing skills, from remedial to advanced. The successful applicant must be comfortable working in face-to-face and electronic/digital instructional settings.This is a pooled position.
