A non-profit organization in the education industry is seeking a hands-on Controller to join its team. This is a newly created role as the organization brings its accounting and financial reporting functions in-house after previously outsourcing them to a CPA firm.

This is not a traditional corporate Controller role. The ideal candidate enjoys wearing multiple hats, improving processes, and working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close, general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Manage capital campaign and construction accounting
• Prepare audit schedules and support the annual external audit
• Assist with Form 990 preparation
• Provide oversight and internal controls for AP, payroll, and receivables
• Identify and implement process improvements
• Transition accounting responsibilities from the outsourced CPA firm

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 5+ years Non-profit accounting experience
• Strong month-end close and financial reporting experience
• Form 990 experience strongly preferred
• Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT strongly preferred
• Private school/education experience preferred
• CPA is a plus
