Job Description
Summary:
Responsible for safe, efficient production and shipping operations during the 1st shift. As a key member of the plant management team, actively supports the Plant Manager and contributes to establishing and achieving operational objectives.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all plant production and shipping activities.
Plan, schedule, organize, and supervise crew assignments and operations.
Direct production operations directly and in coordination with the 2nd Shift Production Supervisor.
Participate in short- and long-term business planning to optimize plant performance.
Lead and attend daily production meetings regarding plant running status and daily operations.
Monitor production output and daily shipments to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Schedule production to align with daily, weekly, and monthly sales forecasts and satisfy customer demand.
Partner with the Purchasing Supervisor to maintain sufficient inventory of production supplies and submit requisitions for materials.
Coordinate machinery repair and equipment maintenance schedules to ensure continuous operation.
Recommend enhancements to production processes and maintenance techniques to improve efficiency.
Propose operational adjustments to senior management as required to meet production quotas and standards.
Assist in recruitment, screening, and hiring of hourly production personnel.
Inspect work in progress and finished tasks to verify adherence to safety and quality standards.
Prepare regular production and operational reports.
Motivate, support, and develop hourly workforce members to achieve company objectives.
Ensure employees receive appropriate training and instruction to perform their duties safely and effectively.
Foster a collaborative, cross-departmental team environment.
Understand, comply with, and enforce company policy, safety handbooks, and Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP).
Maintain full compliance with company standards throughout the assigned shift.
Enforce and comply with MSHA, state, and federal environmental regulations and laws.
Conduct daily physical inspections of the plant grounds and facilities.
Utilize the CMMS software system for tracking work orders, maintenance schedules, and project entries.
Ensure standard operating procedures are strictly followed across all departmental processes.
Investigate, manage, and report safety accidents, incidents, and near misses in a timely manner.
Document and communicate employee relations issues or concerns to the Plant Manager.
Participate in disciplinary actions and formal communications as needed.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Materials, or Mineral Processing) preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Minimum 2 years of progressive supervisory experience, preferably within industrial mining or aggregate operations.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products and operational software; solid understanding of production workflows, shipping logistics, and sieve analysis.
Working knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy mobile equipment (e.g., scrapers, loaders, dozers, forklifts).
Strong leadership, decision-making, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Proven team-building, problem-solving, and creative analytical abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
Strong technical, mechanical, and troubleshooting aptitude.
Work Demands & Environment
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required daily, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, dust mask/respirator, gloves, and protective outerwear.
Exposure to dusty, noisy plant environments and outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain.
Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, climbing up to 8 flights of stairs or ladders, shoveling material, and working from elevated platforms.
