Job Title: Paint Technician 

Department: New/Repair
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
 
Position Overview:

The Paint Technician is responsible for preparing, testing, and painting hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and related components. This position ensures all products meet quality standards and customer specifications while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.


Essential Duties: (Additional duties may be assigned as required.)

  • Deburr, clean, wash, and prepare cylinders and components for painting.
  • Apply various coatings, including primers, epoxy paints, and CARC (Chemical Agent Resistant Coating) paints, using spray-painting equipment.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old paint, rust, grease, dirt, and other contaminants.
  • Mask and protect surfaces and components that are not to be painted.
  • Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and application requirements.
  • Inspect painted cylinders and components to ensure quality standards are met, identifying and correcting defects such as runs, sags, uneven coverage, or unpainted areas.
  • Perform cylinder testing as required to verify product performance and quality.
  • Operate tools, machinery, and equipment safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Properly wear, maintain, and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations related to paints, solvents, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Report any safety concerns or regulatory deviations to management immediately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and assist with general shop housekeeping activities.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings. 


Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:

  • Mechanically incline
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to read tape measures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
