This role goes beyond day-to-day account management. The Benefits Consultant owns the broader client strategy, guiding renewals, financial analysis, benefit design, benchmarking, funding decisions, and long-term planning. You'll partner closely with client service teams, carriers, vendors, and senior client stakeholders to deliver thoughtful solutions in an increasingly complex benefits landscape.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development of comprehensive benefit strategies for an assigned book of business.
  • Guide clients through benefit design, financial analysis, benchmarking, funding alternatives, and renewal strategy.
  • Develop creative solutions to complex benefit challenges while balancing cost, coverage, and organizational objectives.
  • Partner with account management and client service teams throughout the renewal cycle, including pre-renewal planning, RFPs, open enrollment strategy, and post-renewal analysis.
  • Establish the scope, strategy, priorities, and timelines for client engagements.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, and vendor partners.
  • Evaluate insurance markets, networks, funding arrangements, and benefit plan options to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Oversee new client onboarding and collaborate with internal teams to establish implementation plans, responsibilities, and timelines.
  • Ensure client service teams are aligned around client expectations, deliverables, and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain accountability for the revenue and profitability of assigned accounts and projects.
  • Monitor client initiatives for scope, timing, budget, and overall satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional solutions and services that support evolving client needs.
  • Stay current on carrier offerings, market developments, industry trends, and emerging benefit strategies.
  • Maintain knowledge of compliance requirements affecting employer-sponsored health and welfare plans, including HIPAA, ERISA, Section 125, PPACA, and applicable state requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and current client information is maintained within the CRM.
  • Collaborate across business areas to uncover opportunities that strengthen client relationships and support retention.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of Employee Benefits consulting experience required.
  • Valid Life & Health insurance license required.
  • Strong knowledge of health, ancillary, and employer-sponsored benefit programs.
  • Practical knowledge of the benefits quoting and renewal process.
  • Understanding of benefit funding alternatives, insurance markets, networks, and plan options.
  • Current knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to confidently advise and influence senior executives and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear recommendations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and workload-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and highly detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with CRM/database applications.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
