Nuclear Radiology Specialist – Contract Role
Houston, TX 77030
Contract Dates: 06/15/2026 – 09/19/2026
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Position Overview
We are seeking a Nuclear Radiology Specialist to perform high-quality routine and specialized nuclear medicine imaging procedures in a pediatric-focused healthcare environment. The specialist will work under the direction of licensed independent practitioners and collaborate closely with radiologists to produce accurate diagnostic imaging results.
Pediatric experience is preferred but not required. All NMTCB or ARRT-certified nuclear medicine technologists are encouraged to apply
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized nuclear radiology procedures following established protocols
- Prepare, administer, and document medications in compliance with state regulations and institutional policy
- Ensure radiation safety and protection for patients, staff, and self
- Verify patient identity using approved identifiers
- Assess patient readiness, including pregnancy status, consent, contraindications, and clinical history
- Determine appropriate contrast type and dosage based on patient age, weight, and condition
- Maintain high accuracy in imaging positioning and exposure techniques
- Monitor and respond to patient needs throughout procedures
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked and supplies are maintained at appropriate levels
- Maintain accurate inventory and update supply lists as needed
- Troubleshoot imaging and support equipment (RIS, PACS, processors, digitizing systems)
- Provide age-appropriate care from neonatal to adult patients
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of nuclear medicine physics, procedures, and imaging principles
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
- Ability to operate nuclear medicine imaging equipment and troubleshoot issues
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Excellent communication and patient care skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain radiation safety standards
- Ability to work independently and follow established imaging protocols
- Strong customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and clinical staff
Education & Certifications
- Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Radiology technical program (Required)
- CMRT – Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (Texas Medical Board) (Required)
- One of the following required:
- CNMT – Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB)
- OR ARRT (Nuclear Medicine Technology certification)
- Minimum of 3 years of radiology experience (any modality required)
