Overhead Crane Operator - Steel Fabrication

A large, AISC-certified steel-fabrication shop in St. Louis is seeking an experienced Overhead Crane Operator. This position involves safely moving structural and miscellaneous steel throughout a busy fabrication facility.

The shop produces structural assemblies, stairs, railings, embeds, catwalks, and custom-fabricated steel components for commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects.

Responsibilities:

• Operate overhead bridge cranes to move structural steel and fabricated components
• Load, unload, stage, and position steel throughout the shop
• Select and inspect chains, slings, hooks, and other rigging equipment
• Properly balance and secure loads before lifting
• Assist saw, welding, fitting, and fabrication departments with material movement
• Follow hand signals and communicate clearly with coworkers
• Inspect crane and rigging equipment before use
• Maintain an organized and safe material-storage area
• Follow all company safety and quality procedures

Qualifications:

• Previous overhead-crane experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
• Experience handling beams, tubing, plate, angles, and other structural steel preferred
• Knowledge of safe lifting and basic rigging practices
• Ability to judge load balance, clearance, and travel paths
• Ability to read work orders, material tags, and measurements
• Steel-fabrication or industrial experience is strongly preferred
• Strong attention to safety and surroundings
• Dependable attendance and ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet throughout the shift
