We are seeking skilled and reliable HVAC VRF Journeymen to join our new construction team in the Oakland, CA area! This role focuses on the installation, layout, and commissioning of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC systems for commercial new-build projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of VRF technology, can read and interpret plans, works efficiently on job sites, and takes pride in high-quality workmanship.


Responsibilities

  • Install VRF HVAC systems in new construction projects according to plans, specifications, and local codes
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, refrigerant piping diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Install VRF outdoor condensing units, indoor fan coil units, branch selector/controller boxes, refrigerant piping, and related components
  • Braze and pressure-test refrigerant line sets to manufacturer and code standards
  • Ensure proper system layout, refrigerant charge, airflow, and equipment placement per manufacturer specifications
  • Install and terminate low-voltage VRF control wiring and communication cabling between indoor/outdoor units and controllers
  • Coordinate with general contractors, supervisors, and other trades on-site
  • Perform evacuation, leak testing, start-ups, and full system commissioning
  • Identify and resolve installation issues or conflicts in the field
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
  • Comply with OSHA regulations, safety standards, and company policies
  • Accurately complete job documentation, commissioning reports, and manufacturer start-up paperwork as required


Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of HVAC experience, with a strong focus on new construction and VRF systems (e.g., Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG, Samsung, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of VRF system design, refrigerant piping practices, and controls integration
  • Manufacturer VRF certification(s) preferred (Daikin VRV, Mitsubishi CITY MULTI, LG Multi V, or equivalent)
  • Ability to read blueprints, refrigerant piping diagrams, and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of local mechanical codes and refrigerant handling regulations
  • Proficient in brazing, pressure testing, evacuation, and refrigerant charging procedures
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • EPA Universal Certification required
