Job Description
We are looking for an Interim CFO to provide senior financial guidance for an organization based in Chico, California. This Long-term Contract opportunity will play a central role in shaping financial direction, supporting executive decision-making, and maintaining strong fiscal stewardship across the organization. The position will oversee core finance operations, ensure accurate reporting and compliance, and help align financial planning with broader organizational objectives.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with executive leaders and governing stakeholders to develop financial strategies that support organizational priorities and long-range planning.
• Direct accounting operations, budgeting cycles, forecasting activities, and cash management processes to maintain financial stability and visibility.
• Prepare and deliver timely financial reports, analyses, and recommendations that inform leadership decisions and operational planning.
• Lead audit preparation and serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors, ensuring organized documentation and efficient coordination.
• Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting practices, grant conditions, and applicable federal and state financial regulations.
• Oversee financial risk management activities and evaluate fiscal performance through detailed operational and ad hoc analysis.
• Guide financial planning and analysis efforts, including annual planning, performance tracking, and complex modeling to support resource allocation.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop finance staff while promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in controllership, finance leadership, or a closely related accounting role.• Strong expertise in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated background in financial planning and analysis, including annual financial planning and complex analytical work.
• Experience supporting executive leadership and board-level stakeholders with strategic financial insight and recommendations.
• Knowledge of nonprofit financial standards, grant administration, and federal and state regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proven ability to lead finance operations, manage risk, and improve financial processes in a complex organization.
• Strong leadership skills with experience coaching and developing high-performing finance teams.
