Auto Body Painter

This role is responsible for preparing, priming, painting, and refinishing truck bodies, trailers, and vehicle components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will perform detailed surface preparation, mix and apply paint using HVLP spray equipment, inspect finishes for quality, correct defects, and complete touch-ups while maintaining painting tools and equipment. You will collaborate closely with production teams to meet quality standards, safety requirements, and production schedules.

• Prepare truck bodies, trailers, and vehicle components for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking, and surface prep on metal, fiberglass, and composite materials.
• Mix and match paint colors accurately according to specifications, color codes, and production requirements.
• Apply primers, base coats, and finish coats using HVLP spray equipment, ensuring even coverage and high-quality finishes.
• Perform detailed inspections of painted surfaces to identify imperfections, defects, or inconsistencies in color and finish.
• Troubleshoot and repair finish defects, including runs, sags, orange peel, scratches, and other surface issues.
• Complete touch-ups and final finish repairs to meet established quality standards before units move to the next stage of production.
• Read, record, and document paint usage, color codes, work orders, and production details accurately.
• Work within established production schedules and deadlines, coordinating with production teams to ensure on-time completion.
• Maintain painting equipment, spray guns, and paint booths in clean and safe working condition.
• Follow OSHA safety practices and facility safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe work around machinery.
• Collaborate with team members in a manufacturing environment while also being able to work independently when required.
• Support a culture of quality craftsmanship by paying close attention to detail in all stages of paint preparation and application.
• Potentially lead or mentor other painters or team members, providing guidance on trailer painting, refurbishment, and final finish repair.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by sharing ideas to enhance paint processes, efficiency, and quality.

• At least 2 years of autobody, commercial vehicle, truck body, trailer, or industrial painting experience.
• Demonstrated experience painting metal, fiberglass, and composite surfaces.
• Proficiency with HVLP spray equipment and industrial spray guns.
• Strong knowledge of paint preparation and application methods, including priming and finishing techniques.
• Ability to mix and match paint colors accurately to meet specifications and production standards.
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and correct paint and finish defects.
• Ability to read and document paint usage, color codes, and production details clearly and accurately.
• Proven ability to work within production schedules and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also functioning independently when needed.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Manufacturing or refurbishment experience in a production setting.
• Experience with trailer painting and final finish repair.
• Potential or prior experience in team lead or mentoring roles.
• Strong dependability and reliability in attendance and performance.
• Good organization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet production timelines.
• Consistent punctuality and ability to follow established work schedules.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with production teams and share status updates.
• Teamwork skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and to walk, bend, reach, and lift regularly.
• Ability to work safely around moving machinery and in noisy manufacturing environments.
• Comfort with wearing required PPE, including respirators and protective clothing.

This position is based in a manufacturing facility with a dedicated paint booth environment. You will work in a fast-paced production setting with regular exposure to paint fumes, metal dust, insulation materials, noise, and moving machinery. Personal protective equipment is required and includes safety glasses, hearing protection, a respirator, gloves, and protective clothing. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with work performed on your feet for extended periods and frequent walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. The environment emphasizes safety, proper PPE usage, and adherence to OSHA safety practices while maintaining efficient production flow.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Freehold, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $36.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
