Job Description

The Aircraft Fuel System Technician removes, repairs, inspects, installs, and modifies aircraft fuel systems, including integral fuel tanks, bladder cells, and external tanks, while maintaining all associated hardware and support equipment. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving fuel system malfunctions, performing maintenance in confined spaces, and ensuring all work meets strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform removal, repair, installation, and maintenance procedures on aircraft fuel systems in accordance with established policies and technical publications.
• Diagnose fuel system and component malfunctions, recommend corrective actions, and resolve issues using technical data and analytic techniques.
• Conduct maintenance on aircraft fuel tanks and fuel cells, including depuddling, purging, repairing, and testing.
• Remove access panels and perform entry and maintenance in confined spaces while adhering to safety procedures.
• Remove, repair, and replace malfunctioning fuel system components such as valves, lines, gauges, controls, pumps, and related hardware.
• Prepare aircraft surfaces and apply sealants, adhesives, and associated chemicals in accordance with technical specifications.
• Clean fuel cells and tanks and inspect for foreign objects, corrosion, cell deterioration, and fungus, documenting any deficiencies.
• Initiate deficiency reports, maintenance analysis documents, technical data changes, and equipment records to support continuous improvement.
• Operate, maintain, and provide oversight on aircraft support equipment, ensuring proper use and readiness.
• Use automated maintenance systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, document maintenance actions, and manage time-change databases.
• Document all maintenance actions in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and regulatory requirements, including detailed descriptions of work performed and verification of satisfactory completion.
• Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards and company processes.
• Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Maintain strict tool control procedures, including reporting missing or unattended tools, conducting regular inventories and inspections, and replacing worn or broken tools.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations during daily maintenance activities and promptly report accidents, injuries, safety violations, or unsafe practices.
• Maintain equipment records and ensure maintenance data is accurately entered into appropriate systems and databases.
• Provide oversight, direction, and training to other personnel in the completion of aircraft-related maintenance tasks as needed.
• Assist in the repair, inspection, and maintenance of structural, mechanical, and electrical elements of the aircraft.
• Perform duties that may include Designated System Inspector (DSI) responsibilities when assigned.
• Carry out additional related tasks and responsibilities as required to meet ongoing organizational needs.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 8+ years of aircraft fuels maintenance experience with fixed-wing commercial, government, or Department of Defense aircraft.
• Previous Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) 2A6X4 experience is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting Department of Defense contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
• In-depth knowledge of internal fuel system hardware, including valves, interconnects, lines, gauges, controls, pumps, and other attachments.
• Strong knowledge of sealing materials, sheet metal parts, rubber properties, and organic sealing compound applications.
• Ability to read and understand technical orders, directives, engineering drawings, technical documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to properly handle, use, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials in compliance with environmental and company standards.
• intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to learn additional software programs.
• Ability to enter data accurately into maintenance and equipment databases.
• Effective oral and technical written communication skills for clear reporting and documentation.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management, staff, and crew members.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence related to maintenance and inspections.
• Ability to follow established processes and procedures consistently.
• Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw conclusions, justify decisions, and communicate issues to management.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations required for maintenance tasks.
• High degree of self-motivation with the ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple maintenance activities and priorities.
• Ability to utilize respirators, forced air systems, or other breathing equipment during performance of assigned duties.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
• Ability to train others in the use of diagnostic devices, computers, hand tools, and mechanical tools.
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax machines, phones, copiers, scanners, and printers.
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service, and thorough follow-up.
• Understanding of corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to organizational goals.
• Special certifications such as A&P License, NDT, Egress, or Confined Space certification are valued and may qualify for pay premiums.
• Relevant depot-level or heavy maintenance MRO experience, particularly 4–12+ years, is highly valued and may qualify for pay premiums.
• T-38 aircraft experience and AFSC-specific job experience are highly desirable and may qualify for pay premiums.
• Quality Technical Inspector experience is beneficial and may qualify for additional compensation.
• MB US 16T ejection seat experience of 5+ years is desirable and may qualify for pay premiums.

Work Environment

The role is based in an aircraft maintenance environment focused on fuel systems, integral tanks, bladder cells, and external tanks for fixed-wing aircraft. Work is performed in and around aircraft, including confined spaces inside fuel tanks and cells, and requires strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality procedures. Technicians regularly handle sealants, adhesives, organic sealing compounds, and other chemicals, and must use appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, forced air systems, or other breathing equipment when required. The position involves frequent use of diagnostic devices, computers, hand tools, mechanical tools, and aircraft support equipment, along with automated maintenance systems and standard office equipment such as phones, copiers, scanners, and printers. The facility maintains rigorous tool control, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention practices, and hazardous material handling and disposal processes. Work hours align with a standard maintenance operation schedule, and the role supports a long-term, multi-year base contract, providing a stable and structured environment with established procedures and documentation standards

This is a Permanent position based out of Birmingham, AL.

The pay range for this position is $76544.00 - $84989.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
