Job Description

• The General Laborer works in the mill area of a woodworking manufacturing plant, processing cabinet components before assembly. You will operate machines that cut wood pieces to specification, verify measurements in inches using a tape measure, and move completed parts to the assembly area. You may be cross-trained in assembly to drill and install hardware, and operate sanding equipment to finish wood surfaces. This role is hands-on, physically active, and central to preparing high-quality cabinet products for final assembly.

Responsibilities

• Operate woodworking machinery to cut cabinet parts according to specified measurements.
• Use a tape measure to accurately read and verify measurements in inches on wood components.
• Perform basic addition and subtraction in inches to confirm correct dimensions and ensure product quality.
• Move processed cabinet parts from the mill area to the assembly area in a safe and efficient manner.
• Assist with assembly tasks, including drilling and screwing hardware into place on cabinet components.
• Operate sanding machines to smooth and finish wood surfaces as needed.
• Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs consecutively throughout the workday.
• Work safely in a manufacturing environment with wood dust and particles on the floor, following all safety guidelines.
• Maintain a steady workflow by keeping yourself busy, seeking out additional tasks, and helping teammates when your primary tasks are complete.
• Collaborate in a team-oriented environment, communicating effectively with coworkers, many of whom are Spanish speakers.
• Be available to work overtime and occasional Saturday shifts as required by production demands.
• Participate in training on first shift before transitioning to second shift when needed.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to use and read a tape measure accurately in inches.
• Ability to perform basic addition and subtraction using inch-based measurements.
• Capability to bend, kneel, and lift 50 lbs consecutively throughout the workday.
• Comfort working with hand tools and power tools in a manufacturing setting.
• Willingness and availability to work overtime as needed and Saturdays up to 8 hours when required.
• Reliable transportation to consistently arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently in a general labor role within a woodworking environment.
• Strong reliability and commitment to maintaining consistent attendance and performance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with carpentry, woodworking, or furniture assembly is a plus.
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is a plus.
• Comfort working in a team where the majority of employees are Spanish speakers.
• Willingness to be cross-trained in different departments, including mill, finishing, assembly, knock-down, and painting.
• Openness to completing a tape measure assessment during the in-person interview.

Work Environment

• This role is based in a woodworking manufacturing plant where you will work around wood dust and particles on the floor and use hand tools, power tools, and sanding equipment. Most openings are in the mill department, with potential exposure to finishing, assembly, knock-down, and painting areas. The environment is highly team-oriented, with an expectation that employees are self-sufficient, stay productive, and help others when their own tasks are complete. The primary training schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., followed by a second-shift schedule of 2:30 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. when needed. Overtime is common during busy periods and may extend the workweek up to 60 hours, including temporary second-shift assignments lasting approximately 3–4 months, after which shift needs are reassessed. Required attire includes closed-toe shoes, safety glasses, and back support if you have it.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
