Senior Category Manager - Building Materials

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Category Manager to lead product assortment, purchasing, pricing, vendor strategy, and inventory performance for a building-materials retailer. This position will use sales, gross-margin, inventory-turnover, and market data to improve product performance and profitability across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage product assortment, category strategy, purchasing, pricing, and inventory planning across lumber and building-material product categories.
• Analyze sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, product movement, and customer-demand data to improve purchasing and merchandising decisions.
• Negotiate vendor pricing, rebates, promotions, purchasing programs, and supplier agreements while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
• Partner with branch and department leaders to improve product availability, pricing strategy, sales growth, inventory levels, and profitability.
• Develop reports and dashboards using POS or ERP systems and conduct location visits to evaluate inventory performance and merchandising standards.

Qualifications

• Eight or more years of experience in lumber and building materials, hardware distribution, contractor supply, or building-products retail.
• Strong background in category management, purchasing, procurement, inventory planning, product merchandising, or merchandise management.
• Proven experience managing sales performance, gross margins, pricing, inventory turnover, and product assortment.
• Demonstrated success negotiating with vendors and managing supplier relationships, rebates, and promotional programs.
• Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and organizational skills, including experience using ERP or POS systems.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to travel between company locations as needed.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must be willing to work on-site in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
