Job Description

Job Summary

Titan Robotics, Inc. is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Products, Platforms, and UX team. This role is focused on building the software platforms, tools, and abstractions that connect Titan’s users, products, and robotic systems.

As information moves from the user, through platforms, and into the numerous layers of execution in a highly autonomous system, it changes form constantly. Our job is to hang onto that identity and progressively disclose the "right" information, in the "right" form, at the "right" time to every consumer of our systems, whether that consumer is a person or another system.

This is an interdisciplinary team. You will work closely with software engineers, product, UX, and visual design to shape both how the system works and how people experience it.

That means working across application architecture, shared data models, interfaces, visualization, workflows, and the boundaries between product software and systems such as autonomy, perception, planning, and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build reusable software platforms, libraries, and application infrastructure used across Titan’s commercial products.
  • Define how information is represented, transformed, and exposed as it moves between users, applications, and robotic systems.
  • Develop shared architecture for workflows, application state, visualization, interaction patterns, and system interfaces.
  • Develop interfaces and interactions for complex robotic and autonomous systems, including both 2D and 3D applications.
  • Work with engineers across autonomy, perception, mechanical and systems to define system boundaries and the information that crosses them.
  • Identify capabilities that are being solved independently across products or subsystems and determine when they should become part of the common platform.
  • Balance abstraction and reuse against the practical needs of the product. Platform software should simplify the system, not introduce another layer for its own sake.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building reliable production systems.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including software architecture, API design, data modeling, and interface design.
  • Ability to reason about how information changes form as it moves through a complex system.
  • Ability to understand what should remain the same through those transformations, what is simply another representation, and when something has become a fundamentally different concept.
  • Experience designing software intended to be used, extended, or integrated by other engineers.
  • Ability to understand a large existing system and build within its architecture rather than defaulting to introducing a new technology or framework.
  • Ability to recognize useful abstractions and common patterns without over-generalizing the problem.
  • Experience building production software for technically complex or information-dense systems.
  • A demonstrated interest in developing user interfaces and interactions for complex systems.
  • Experience with 3D visualization or 3D interaction.
  • Experience with web technologies is useful, but this is not a web application role.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Technologies You Will Use

  • Application and UI: Qt / C++
  • Core Technologies: C++, Ruby
  • 3D Visualization: OpenSceneGraph, OpenGL
  • Additional platforms and technologies as appropriate for the user experience and product being developed.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Qt.
  • Experience developing reusable libraries, frameworks, SDKs, or application platforms.
  • Experience with OpenSceneGraph, VulkanSceneGraph, OpenGL, or other 3D rendering technologies.
  • Experience with Unity3D or other game engines.
  • Experience with C, C++, C#, Rust, or other C-style languages.
  • Experience working on large, long-lived software systems.
  • Experience working with robotics, autonomous systems, industrial automation, or other complex physical systems.
  • Experience with functional prototyping and using prototypes to evaluate product or interaction concepts.
