Position: Brake Press Operator
Pay Rate: $19.00/hour
Location: Stockton, CA
Schedule: 2nd Shift
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Brake Press Operator to set up and operate press brake equipment used to bend, form, and fabricate metal components. This position is responsible for interpreting drawings and work orders, selecting appropriate tooling, performing machine setups, inspecting finished parts, and making necessary adjustments to ensure components meet required specifications.
The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication, strong measurement skills, and the ability to maintain high standards of safety, quality, accuracy, and productivity.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate press brake equipment to bend and form metal components according to work orders, drawings, and production specifications.
- Review blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and production orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, bend sequences, and material requirements.
- Select and install appropriate dies, punches, tooling, and machine settings for each production job.
- Load, position, align, and remove materials from press brake equipment safely.
- Enter and adjust machine parameters, including bend angles, dimensions, and other required settings.
- Perform first-piece inspections and verify parts meet specifications before beginning full production runs.
- Measure finished components using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, angle gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and product quality.
- Inspect raw materials and completed parts for defects, damage, dimensional accuracy, and overall workmanship.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, tooling issues, material defects, and quality concerns.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance as assigned.
- Maintain accurate production counts and complete required production and quality documentation.
- Properly identify, label, and organize completed parts for downstream manufacturing processes.
- Follow established setup and production procedures to minimize scrap and material waste.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Follow all company safety procedures, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements, and required PPE.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, continuous improvement activities, and departmental initiatives.
- Collaborate with production, quality, engineering, maintenance, and other departments to resolve manufacturing issues and meet production goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, machine operation, metal fabrication, or press brake operation preferred.
- Experience working with sheet metal or fabricated metal components preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work orders, and production instructions.
- Ability to accurately use tape measures, calipers, micrometers, angle gauges, and other measuring instruments.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and machine troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and dimensional accuracy.
- Ability to understand tolerances and verify finished parts against specifications.
- Ability to safely set up and operate industrial production equipment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality, and productivity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
