FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER
The Hanover Theatre
Reports To: Café & Concessions Operations Manager – Carol Shick
Direct Reports: Bartenders, Barbacks
Schedule: Event-driven; significant evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
Position Summary
The Food & Beverage Manager owns day-to-day bar and concession operations across The Hanover Theatre, JMAC, FSS, and Special Events—staffing, cash and inventory controls, purchasing, beverage program development, and floor-level service execution—and serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) for all main stage events.
Key Responsibilities
Staffing & Scheduling
- Publish monthly bar staff schedules by the 15th for Hanover, JMAC, FSS, and Special Events.
- Coordinate volunteer concession staffing; integrate volunteer coverage with paid bar shifts as needed.
Cash Handling, Reconciliation & Tips
- Prepare cash bags from the safe and distribute to bartenders at the start of each shift.
- Reconcile bartender closing totals against drawer counts and Square reporting; secure cash and complete daily bank deposits.
- Maintain small-bill inventory by exchanging large denominations; conduct monthly safe count with Finance.
- Maintain a weekly tips spreadsheet for all bar staff and email to Operations Director & Finance.
Purchasing & Inventory
- Manage purchasing of alcohol, concession food and candy, paper goods, non-alcoholic beverages, and logo cups for Main Stage, FSS, and JMAC.
- Conduct monthly inventory of all bars and storerooms at Hanover and JMAC; maintain end-of-shift inventory sheets at each bar.
Beverage Program
- Develop specialty cocktails aligned with events and seasonality.
- Partner with the in-house marketing team to produce drink signage for bars.
Event Floor Supervision
- Serve as MOD for all main stage events; conduct check-ins on smaller events at JMAC.
- Resolve service, staffing, and guest issues in real time; ensure compliance with responsible beverage service requirements.
Meetings & Communication
- Lead/attend Thursday 10:00 AM Events & Logistics meeting (all staff): next 10 days of activity and prior-week recap.
- Lead/attend Thursday 1:00 PM detail meeting focused on upcoming event staffing and shift-level execution.
Qualifications
Required
- Prior F&B or bar management experience in a venue, theater, hospitality, or event environment.
- Demonstrated staff scheduling and team supervision experience.
- Strong cash handling, reconciliation, and reporting skills; proficiency with spreadsheets.
- TIPS (or equivalent) responsible beverage service certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays consistent with the event calendar.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of Square POS.
- Experience coordinating volunteer staff.
- ServSafe or equivalent food handler certification.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Extended standing and walking; lifting up to 50 lbs. (kegs, cases, supplies); frequent movement between bar locations during events in a fast-paced, high-volume public venue
