Dietary Cook – Hospital

Position Overview

The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing high‐quality meals for patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with hospital dietary guidelines, safety standards, and physician‐ordered nutrition plans. This role ensures all food is prepared safely, timely, and with attention to special diets and restrictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to daily menus, diet orders, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Follow recipes, portion standards, and food presentation requirements.
  • Ensure all food is handled, stored, and prepared in compliance with hospital, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and food prep areas.
  • Assist with inventory, stocking, and rotation of food supplies.
  • Work closely with Dietary Aides, Nutrition Services staff, and clinical teams to meet patient dietary needs.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, steamers, slicers, and mixers.
  • Prepare meals for patients with special dietary requirements (low sodium, diabetic, pureed, renal, etc.).
  • Follow all infection control procedures and hospital policies.
  • Support meal service during peak times, including plating, packaging, and delivery coordination.

Qualifications

  • Previous cooking or food service experience required (hospital or healthcare setting preferred).
  • Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, recipes, and diet orders.
  • Strong time‐management and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment and stand for extended periods.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • ServSafe certification is a plus.

Schedule & Pay

  • $16.00/hr
  • Full‐time positions available
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts, including weekends or holidays if needed.
