Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse is responsible for working with the Health Director in implementing the health services component of the adult medical day care program. S/he is responsible for providing the on-going, daily nursing services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides necessary and physician ordered nursing services to participants. Evaluates health status on a daily basis. Assesses health complaints as reported by participants.
2. Responsible for proper clinical documentation. Record monthly progress notes in the participants' charts according to established policies and procedures. Documents all incidents and significant changes in health status. Records all follow up with physicians and families. Complete individual assessments (ADCAPS) in a timely fashion. Case load is determined by Health Director.
3. Responsible for ensuring medications are dispensed, recorded and updated. Educates participants about medications, their purpose, side effects, and doses.
4. Assists Health Director in obtaining current physician's orders on each participant. Informs primary care physicians of changes in health status. Works with doctors to ensure provision of adequate care.
5. Participates on the interdisciplinary treatment team in the development of individual plans of care for each participant. Implements prescribed treatments and approaches. Update care plans as required by the Center's policies. Participates in family conferences.
6. Prepares discharge plan in coordination with social worker and multi-disciplinary team
7. Monitors participant’s individual dietary and supplemental feeding plan as prescribed by the participants physician or medical director
8. Maintains adequate stock of nursing supplies.
9. Assists with supervision nursing assistants. Inform Health Director when incidence with staff occurs.
10. Assists with orienting staff and contributing to the on-going in-service education program. Responsible for issues regarding: infection control, first aid, and medically related topics.

Qualifications:

1. Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
2. Knowledge of various disease processes that affect the elderly, including Stroke, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Cancer, and heart disease.
3. Good documentation and oral communication skills.
4. Current CPR and First Aid Certification required.
5. Computer literate
