Powder Coating Operator

The Powder Coating Operator is responsible for preparing, coating, curing, and inspecting metal components and finished products according to production schedules, quality standards, and customer specifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to safely and effectively operate powder coating equipment, and a commitment to quality control, workplace safety, and efficient manufacturing practices. The Powder Coating Operator works independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment to ensure finished products meet established specifications while supporting productivity and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare parts and materials for powder coating by cleaning, masking, sanding, surface preparing, and hanging components as required
• Operate powder coating equipment, spray guns, curing ovens, and related production tools safely and effectively
• Apply powder coatings evenly and accurately to metal components according to product specifications, coating requirements, and quality standards
• Monitor coating thickness, coverage, adhesion, and finish quality using measuring tools and visual inspection techniques
• Inspect finished products for coating defects, imperfections, and compliance with customer specifications and quality control requirements
• Perform touch-ups, rework, and corrective actions when necessary to achieve required finish standards
• Maintain proper oven temperatures, curing times, and coating application settings throughout the production process
• Identify and report defective materials, equipment malfunctions, coating issues, or other production concerns to the supervisor
• Maintain accurate production records, inspection documentation, and quality documentation
• Assist with loading, unloading, hanging, racking, and moving materials throughout the production process
• Safely use hand tools, measuring devices, and material handling equipment
• Demonstrate working knowledge of powder coating techniques, coating materials, surface preparation, and application processes
• Follow established quality control procedures, manufacturing specifications, and production standards
• Maintain awareness of workplace hazards and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on powder coating equipment, spray systems, curing equipment, and work areas
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards
• Follow all established safety policies and procedures and safe equipment operating practices
• Meet production schedules, productivity expectations, and quality requirements while minimizing defects and rework
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve safety, quality, workflow, and productivity
• Suggest process improvements to enhance coating consistency, operational efficiency, safety, and product quality
• Collaborate with production team members and supervisors to troubleshoot problems and improve manufacturing processes
• Demonstrate strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination while handling parts, coating equipment, and production tools
• Safely lift, move, position, hang, and remove materials and components throughout the production process
• Work effectively in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, dust, powder coating materials, and production equipment

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in powder coating, industrial painting, finishing, metal fabrication, or a related manufacturing environment is preferred
• Working knowledge of powder coating application, surface preparation, spray techniques, curing processes, and finish inspection
• Ability to safely operate powder coating spray guns, curing ovens, hand tools, and related production equipment
• Ability to recognize coating defects and evaluate coating thickness, coverage, color consistency, and surface finish
• Basic understanding of quality inspection, production specifications, and quality control procedures
• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions, production procedures, safety requirements, and customer specifications
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination
• Ability to perform routine equipment cleaning and basic preventive maintenance
• Ability to accurately complete production, inspection, and quality records
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with production team members and supervisors
• Commitment to workplace safety, proper PPE usage, housekeeping, and 5S practices
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining consistent quality standards
• Ability to safely lift, move, hang, position, and handle metal parts and production materials as required by the job
• Willingness to support continuous improvement, problem-solving, and manufacturing process improvements
