Role Profile: Senior Project Engineer (Specialty Gas & Chemical Systems)

Onsite Richardson, TX

Duration: 4 months

Objective

To provide end-to-end technical leadership and project management for the design, installation, and commissioning of Specialty Chemical and Gas delivery systems (e.g., VMBs, Gas Cabinets). The engineer will ensure all systems meet stringent semiconductor purity standards, design quality, and facility safety requirements from initial field verification through to final project handover.

Responsibilities

1. Engineering & Technical Design (Front-End)

• Utility Data Evaluation: Analyze existing facility utility data (pressure, flow, temperature, and purity) to ensure the infrastructure can support new VMB/Gas Cabinet requirements.
• Field Verification: Perform detailed on-site field verifications to validate tie-in points, spatial constraints, and existing piping/cabling layouts to prevent design conflicts.
• Design Development: Define owner’s project requirements for gas/chem systems and lead the development of P&IDs, schematics, and installation layouts.
• Technical Specification: Define equipment specifications (OFCI) for high-purity components, including valve manifolds, regulators, and delivery modules, ensuring alignment with semiconductor standards.
• Review & Approval: Review and approve vendor engineering deliverables, including shop drawings, orbital welding procedures, and material certifications.

2. Project & Construction Management (Execution)

• Lifecycle Ownership: Manage the project from "cradle to grave," including technology selection, procurement support, installation oversight, and final commissioning.
• Contractor Guidance: Provide direct technical guidance to contractors to resolve complex design or installation issues on the FAB floor or utility areas.
• Value Engineering: Participate in cost-reduction discussions by identifying opportunities to optimize gas/chem distribution layouts without compromising system integrity.
• CM & QAQC Coordination: Work closely with Construction Managers (CM) and Quality Assurance teams to ensure that all installations (specifically orbital welding and leak testing) adhere to strict semiconductor cleanliness and safety standards.
• RFI/Submittal Management: Act as the technical lead for the RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes, ensuring all supplier submittals are technically compliant before procurement.

Key Skills & Requirements

• Semiconductor Expertise: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a semiconductor manufacturing environment, specifically managing Specialty Gas or Chemical distribution systems.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of high-purity piping (e.g., SS316L EP), orbital welding standards, and gas/chemical cabinet functionality (VMB/GC).
• Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to partner with Procurement, Finance, and Field Engineering teams to align technical scope with budget and construction schedules.
• Communication: Ability to convey highly technical gas/chemical requirements to non-technical stakeholders and provide timely, accurate feedback on vendor documentation.
• Analytical Thinking: Skilled in evaluating complex datasets and field conditions to translate them into accurate engineering designs.
