Sheet Metal Assembler

This contract-to-permanent role focuses on the assembly, modification, and installation of aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and structural assemblies in a climate-controlled production environment. You will work with sheet metal and composite materials, perform complex assemblies, and ensure all work meets customer requirements and quality standards. Multiple full-time shifts are available, with regular overtime opportunities.

• Assemble, modify, and install aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and structural assemblies in accordance with blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
• Interpret and work from engineering blueprints and technical specifications to meet all quality and customer requirements.
• Complete required data gathering and documentation to accurately track assembly progress and process information.
• Set up and operate various shop equipment, including drill presses, floor-mounted rivet presses, squeezes, precision measuring tools, drill motors, and countersink cutters.
• Perform basic and complex sheet metal work, riveting, and assembly methods, including complex compound shimming and unique structures assembly.
• Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot assembly and equipment issues, identifying root causes and proposing process improvements.
• Perform all required rework or changes incorporated during the assembly process to ensure final assemblies meet specifications.
• Assemble major components of sub-assemblies, major assemblies, and smaller bench work assemblies, including composite and 787 frames composite assemblies.
• Move, stage, and obtain correct parts, materials, tools, and assemblies to maintain workflow and production schedules.
• Identify nonconforming parts, conditions, and manufacturing processes and escalate or correct them in line with quality procedures.
• Communicate verbally with team members and supervisors regarding work processes, issues, and status updates.
• Record and maintain accurate process information, including work performed, changes made, and inspection results.
• Follow established safety procedures when working near moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
• Use forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment safely to move components and assemblies as required.
• Manage time effectively to meet production targets, quality standards, and overtime requirements.

• One to two years of related experience and/or training in aircraft assembly, sheet metal, or structures work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Two to five years of complex assembly experience.
• Two to five years of structures experience, preferably in aerospace structures.
• Proficiency in basic sheet metal fabrication and assembly methods.
• Hands-on experience with riveting, including floor-mounted rivet presses and squeezes.
• Ability to interpret and work accurately from blueprints and technical drawings.
• Experience with complex assembly, complex compound unique shimming, and structures mechanic tasks.
• Familiarity with composite materials, composite fabrication, and composite assembly, including 787 frames composite assembly.
• Effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet production deadlines.
• Ability to communicate verbally regarding work processes and issues in a clear and professional manner.
• Ability to write and record process information accurately for tracking and quality documentation.
• Capability to use precision measuring tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally and perform frequent standing, walking, reaching, and manual work.

• Six months of vocational training in a relevant technical or mechanical field is preferred.
• Previous experience with major aerospace manufacturers or suppliers (such as large airframe or structures companies) is preferred.
• Experience working with spares and complex assemblies in an aerospace or manufacturing environment.
• Comfort working with drill motors, countersink cutters, and other power tools in a production setting.
• Experience operating forklifts, drill presses, floor-mounted rivet presses, and overhead cranes.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to identify nonconforming parts and processes and support corrective actions.
• Willingness to work overtime, including Fridays, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays, as production needs require.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, contract-to-permanent position in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on aircraft structures and composite assembly. First shift typically runs 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime commonly available on Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and additional overtime on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as needed. Second shift typically runs 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with Friday and Saturday work as needed, targeting approximately 60 hours per week when overtime is scheduled. The work environment includes frequent exposure to vibration and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels are usually loud, and appropriate hearing protection and safety practices are required. The role involves regular use of hands, frequent standing, walking, and reaching, with occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Steel toe boots are required as part of the dress code, and reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
