About this job
Job Description
A precision tooling and specialty machine shop is hiring a hands-on Shop Supervisor for first shift.
This is a working supervisor job, not an office job. The shop builds one-off tooling, gages, fixtures and custom machines, from prototype through production, much of it in hard-to-machine materials. You run the floor, and when a machinist gets stuck on a tough job, you step in, give advice and show them how it is done at the machine. The shop runs both manual and CNC equipment, so this is general machine shop supervision, not CNC only.
What you will do:
- Supervise the machine shop floor staff
- Help machinists work through difficult jobs with advice and hands-on demonstration
- Schedule work through the shop and follow up on progress
- Get the shop back on schedule when jobs fall behind
- Run machines yourself when the work calls for it
What you need:
- Around 10 years in machining, shop supervision, or both
- Strong hands-on skill on manual and CNC mills and lathes, including setup
- A tooling, job shop or specialty machining background (one-off and low-volume work, not high-volume production)
- Able to work first shift, 45 to 50 hours a week
Pay: $35 to $40 per hour, based on experience. Full time, first shift, minimum 40 hours a week and usually 45 to 50.
