About the Role:
Essence Services Inc is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional's (DSP) to join our growing team in Akron, OH! Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, and household tasks
- Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and document progress accurately
- Transport and accompany clients to medical appointments, community activities, and errands
- Encourage client independence, skill-building, and community integration
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, family members, and care team members
- Respond appropriately to behavioral challenges using approved techniques and protocols
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience as a DSP, caregiver, home health aide, or in a related field preferred
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred (no more than 4 points on license)
- Ability to pass a background check
- Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays
- CPR/First Aid certification, Medication Administration (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
