JOB TITLE: ICF Direct Support Professional (DSP) PAY GRADE: 6
DEPARTMENT: ICF/IDSUPERVISOR: Residential Supervisor
JOB SUMMARYAn ICF DSP shall provide direct services to the members of Mid-Step Services, Inc. according to their identified needs.
MAIN DUTIESMember Protections
Members are not to be subjected to physical, verbal, sexual, or psychological abuse or punishment (adherence to approved member management techniques).
Members are to be free from unnecessary restraint or restrictions (e.g. - employ graded levels of intervention).
Members are to be provided with the opportunity for personal privacy (personal care) and have the right to retain personal possessions and property. (Personal possessions are removed only per member-staff guidelines policy or individual programs).
Follow all policy and procedures that prohibit mistreatment, neglect, or abuse of members (report all instances or suspected instances).
Training
Participate in all training that enables performance of duties effectively, efficiently, and competently (e.g. - staff meetings, orientation, in-services, etc.).
Demonstrate the skills and techniques necessary to administer interventions to manage the inappropriate behavior of members (proper member management, no over use or reliance on reprimands and/or negative statements).
Demonstrate the skills necessary to implement the individual program plans for each member.
Complete online and classroom training as required prior to the due date. This includes Relias courses, Mandatory Reporter, Safety Care and CPR.
Active Treatment
Active treatment schedule and program plans are implemented as written (e.g. - house schedules, standard training procedures, etc.).
Participate in the development of individual member program plans and the interdisciplinary team process (includes effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and staff).
Significant member events and member responses as specified in individual programs are documented (e.g. - progress notes, shift logs, behavior management logs, and program data sheets/cards).
Routinely intervene on self-injurious or any other potentially injurious behavior.
Uses correct voice tones when interacting with members and staff, and all interaction is age appropriate.
Promote growth through all phases of daily living by taking advantage of training opportunities. Encourage members to demonstrate maximum independence by working with members to perform daily living tasks such as vacuuming, laundry, bed making, etc. with minimal prompting (unless indicated otherwise in their individual program).
Encourage members to engage in the community.
Member Behavior and Facility Practices
Demonstrate policies and procedures for management of member behavior.
Use only facility approved interventions in the management of member behavior (Safety Care techniques, member-staff guidelines).
Physical Environment/Health
Ensure members' environment is furnished, safe, sanitary, and maintained in good repair. (e.g. - requests for maintenance).
Familiar with the use of the facilities fire protection features and emergency plans/procedures.
Ensure that members are provided with food at appropriate temperatures, amounts, and are provided utensils as specified.
Supervise meals and snacks. Ensure correct diets are being followed.
Ensure member cleanliness and maintain proper member appearance.
Report illness/injury and change in member's condition.
Demonstrate proper transporting of members.
Monitor all areas of self-care including shaving, nails, and nursing duties.
General Process
Maintain confidentiality of members, member records, and conferences.
Follow all company policies/procedures as specified.
Follow procedures for lines of communication and authority.
Develop, maintain, and foster a positive training environment between staff and members.
Participate in other activities assigned or directed.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Maintain a neat/clean appearance to serve as an appropriate role model.
Work daily schedule, reporting for work on time (complete requests for time off, appropriate use of time card).
Interact appropriately with members according to policies and procedures set forth by Mid-Step Services, Inc. and serve as an appropriate role model.
QUALIFICATIONSPossess ability to speak and read English.
Must be able to write legibly.
Must have no restrictions on ability to lift.
Must be approved to work by the Iowa Department of Human Services if one or more of the following exist: prior convictions, child abuse registry report, and/or dependent adult abuse registry report.
Must not be on Medicare/Medicaid fraud registry.
Must pass pre-employment physical.
Individuals with blood borne pathogen diseases cannot be employed in any direct care position due to risk of disease exposure to our members.
