First Call Direct Hire is recruiting an experienced Assistant Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager for a manufacturing company in Greenfield, Indiana.
This is an excellent opportunity for an EHS professional with strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, workplace safety, and environmental compliance who is ready to take on additional leadership responsibility.
The Assistant EHS Manager will help lead the facility's safety and environmental programs, ensure regulatory compliance, conduct risk assessments and incident investigations, coordinate employee safety training, and support continuous improvement of the company's EHS programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform risk assessments and job hazard analyses for manufacturing operations and work tasks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Prepare and maintain required OSHA, EPA, and environmental compliance documentation and reports.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, including Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, and PPE.
- Conduct safety audits, workplace inspections, and equipment reviews.
- Conduct sound-level testing and analyze results according to OSHA requirements.
- Determine appropriate PPE requirements and ensure employees have the proper equipment for their work areas.
- Maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program and review chemicals before they are introduced into the facility.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal activities.
- Support SWPPP compliance, including sampling, documentation, and reporting.
- Coordinate emergency response planning and training for medical emergencies, fires, spills, and other incidents.
- Lead workplace safety incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop corrective actions.
- Identify accident and injury trends and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, equipment, and training.
- Create and maintain the facility's Emergency Action Plan.
- Coordinate safety orientation for new employees and ongoing annual safety training.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives and environmental management programs.
- Communicate safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to employees throughout the facility.
- Provide leadership and supervision to an EHS team member, including training, work assignments, performance management, and development.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of EHS experience required
- 3+ years of OSHA experience preferred
- ISO 14001 experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university OR 3–5 years of related EHS experience and/or training OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
- Experience with incident investigations and root-cause analysis
- Knowledge of hazardous materials, waste management, SDS requirements, and environmental compliance
- Experience developing or administering workplace safety programs
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
