About Mary Agnes Manor:
Mary Agnes Manor is a 230 bed Assisted Living Community located on the beautiful and historic D'Youville Campus in Buffalo, NY.
PositionWe are seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Memory Care Unit Manager to lead our specialized memory care neighborhood within our Assisted Living Residence.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands the unique needs of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. This individual will be responsible for ensuring resident safety, promoting quality of life, supervising staff, and maintaining a supportive, structured, and engaging environment.
We are looking for someone who can balance compassionate resident care with strong leadership, accountability, and operational excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesResident Care & Quality of Life
Oversee the daily operations of the dementia care unit, ensuring a safe, supportive, and resident-centered environment.
Monitor residents' cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and functional needs.
Develop and implement individualized approaches to dementia care, including interventions for challenging behaviors.
Promote meaningful activities, social engagement, and opportunities for residents to maintain independence.
Collaborate with nursing, case management, families, and other healthcare professionals to address changes in resident condition.
Ensure appropriate supervision and interventions to minimize risks associated with wandering, falls, agitation, and other dementia-related concerns.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to resident care staff.
Monitor staff performance, assignments, attendance, and adherence to facility policies.
Coach and educate staff on dementia care techniques, communication strategies, and behavioral interventions.
Foster a positive team environment built on compassion, professionalism, and accountability.
Ensure staff respond appropriately to resident needs and maintain a respectful, dignified approach to care.
Operations & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure the unit operates in accordance with applicable New York State Department of Health regulations and facility policies.
Conduct routine rounds to monitor resident safety, cleanliness, staff performance, and overall unit operations.
Participate in care planning, interdisciplinary meetings, incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
Maintain appropriate documentation and communicate concerns promptly to facility leadership.
Assist with regulatory surveys, inspections, and implementation of corrective actions.
Serve as a primary point of communication for residents' families regarding daily care and quality-of-life concerns.
Required:
Experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
Previous supervisory or management experience in assisted living, adult care, memory care, or a related healthcare setting.
Strong understanding of dementia-related behaviors and nonpharmacological interventions.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced residential care environment.
Compassionate, patient, and resident-centered approach to care.
Preferred:
Experience managing a dedicated memory care or dementia unit.
Familiarity with New York State Adult Care Facility and Special Needs Assisted Living Residence (SNALR) regulations.
Background in nursing, social work, healthcare administration, or a related field.
Experience with staff training, quality assurance, and regulatory survey preparation.

The successful candidate will be someone who can recognize a resident's unmet needs before a behavior escalates, provide calm direction during challenging situations, and create an environment where both residents and employees feel supported.
