Material Prep Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented, safety-conscious and quality-focused Materials Preparation Technician with expertise in tack-welding to join our production team. This role plays a vital part in preparing and assembling metal parts for fabrication, ensuring accuracy and efficiency during the early stages of the manufacturing process, and laying the foundation for downstream production success. First and second shift hours available.

Key Responsibilities

Tack-Welding

• Execute precise tack-welds on metal components and assemblies as per work instructions.
• Weigh, align and position parts manually for preliminary welds.
• Ensure joints are secure and meet pre-weld tolerances for downstream processes.
• Inspect weld joints and part alignment before sending to fabrication.

Materials Preparation

• Clean, grind, and deburr raw materials to meet fit-up specifications.
• Cut and shape metal stock using saws, shears, or torches as needed.
• Organize and stage materials according to production schedules and fabrication plans.

Safety & Maintenance

• Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with OSHA and company standards.
• Regularly inspect and maintain tack-welding tools and preparation equipment.
• Follow lockout/tagout and PPE protocols consistently.

Qualifications

• Comfortable using hand tools, grinders, measuring instruments, and layout equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and spatial awareness.
• High school diploma or GED; technical training in welding or fabrication preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in metal fabrication or welding environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret welding symbols and technical drawings preferred.
• Certification in welding (e.g., AWS D1.1) is a plus.
• Familiarity with powder metallurgy or metal additive manufacturing materials is a plus
• Forklift operation or material handling experience is a plus.

Work Conditions

• Standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working in industrial shop environments.
• Exposure to heat, noise, and metal particulates—appropriate PPE is provided.
• May require shift work depending on production demand
