Facilities Technician – Biotech / Laboratory

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Technician for a Biotech Research Organization in San Diego, CA.

This is not your typical commercial or residential Facilities Technician role. We are looking for someone with experience working in a controlled facility, laboratory, biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, hospital, medical facility, or similar setting.

Position Type: Direct Hire
Location: San Diego, CA – Onsite
Pay: $34–$37 per hour DOE

The Facilities Technician will support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility mechanical systems, utilities, and building infrastructure within a laboratory/manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine facility inspections and daily equipment/system checks.
• Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, chillers, vacuum pumps, compressed air systems, boilers, fume hoods, and other facility utilities.
• Perform minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, drywall, and general building repairs.
• Troubleshoot facility and equipment issues and escalate more complex problems as needed.
• Coordinate with contractors and service providers for maintenance, repairs, calibration, and facility improvements.
• Support preventive maintenance programs and maintain accurate maintenance documentation.
• Order replacement parts, tools, and supplies as needed.
• Assist with moving equipment, furniture, and other facility items.
• Communicate planned maintenance, equipment shutdowns, and operational issues to appropriate teams.
• Follow cGMP, EH&S, safety, and facility procedures.
• Participate in emergency and/or on-call facilities support as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3+ years of facilities, maintenance, or building maintenance experience.
• Hands-on experience with electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general building repairs.
• Experience with HVAC, chillers, boilers, compressed air, vacuum systems, or similar facility equipment preferred.
• Experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, laboratory, medical, hospital, manufacturing, or other regulated environment is highly desirable.
• Ability and willingness to learn and follow cGMP requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with internal teams, contractors, and outside service providers.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and push/pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding and work around rooftop equipment.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
• Ability to work in laboratory environments and wear required PPE.
