CT Technologist Job Overview

The CT Technologist performs all diagnostic exams in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role emphasizes achieving the highest technical quality and efficiency while ensuring patient safety and providing compassionate care.

Essential Functions

• Execute complex specialized tasks associated with operating CT scanners, power injectors, and related equipment while adhering to prescribed radiation safety procedures.
• Position patients appropriately for CT scans using positioning devices and protective equipment as necessary.
• Perform exams accurately following established protocols, policies, and patient safety standards.
• Assist radiologists with imaging and interventional procedures, including starting IVs and administering contrast when applicable.
• Evaluate the technical quality of CT scans, collate and sequence processed images, and appropriately label them for transmission to the Image Archival System.
• Schedule patient procedures and assist with clerical functions, including charging procedures and supplies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Dispense and/or order oral contrast for CT scans as necessary.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Provide orientation and training to new CT technologists while offering educational support to student technologists.
• Attend to the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families during CT scans.
• Coordinate scheduling and optimize patient flow within the department.
• Demonstrate proficiency in IV placement for contrast administration and accuracy in performing all exam protocols.
• Assist in developing new imaging protocols and techniques in collaboration with radiologists.

Qualifications & Skills

Education

• Graduation from an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology plus completion of an accredited CT program.
• Alternatively, graduation from a bachelor's degree program in Radiology with two semesters of clinical rotation in CT.
• Clinical experience may substitute for accredited CT program.

Experience

• Preferred: One year of experience in a clinical setting, though not mandatory.

Licensure and Certification

• ARRT certification in Radiography.
• CT certification within 18 months of employment.
• BLS certification.

Job Knowledge

• Understanding of anatomy and physiology related to radiologic exams.
• Excellent communication skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The ability to lift twenty (20) pounds is necessary. The role involves the moving, lifting, or transferring of patients which may include lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assisting with weights exceeding one hundred (100) pounds. Candidates must be able to stand for extended periods and possess fine motor skills and visual acuity.
