Medical Assistant

WCS Healthcare Partners is seeking a Medical Assistant to support a medical practice and provide clinical and patient care support in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This role is responsible for routine Medical Assistant functions, phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection and processing, patient support, and assisting providers with clinical needs.

 

Job Responsibilities

• Perform routine Medical Assistant functions in accordance with organizational policies, best practices, and service standards.
• Accurately obtain and document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight, in the EMR.
• Perform venipuncture and finger-stick blood collection, including drawing, labeling, processing, and preparing specimens for pickup.
• Process and properly identify specimens, match specimens to requisitions, and centrifuge or refrigerate specimens as required.
• Order laboratory tests based on physician orders and track test results.
• Schedule home draw laboratory services and obtain applicable laboratory reports.
• Perform EKGs and routine testing, including urine dipsticks, finger-stick glucose, and INR testing.
• Monitor laboratory and medical supply inventory and ensure examination rooms are appropriately stocked.
• Follow established infection control, OSHA, safety, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
• Transport patients via wheelchair or accompany ambulatory patients to and from designated clinical areas.
• Assist patients with transfers, including transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilets, and other equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
• Provide assistance with toileting and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Assist physicians with examinations, including equipment setup, cleanup, and translation when necessary.
• Coordinate follow-up visits and transportation for patients.
• Provide front desk coverage and assist with patient questions, concerns, and grievances as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical Assistant or medical technician training.
• Medical Assistant certification required.
• Certified Phlebotomist required.
• EKG training/experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with an elderly population.
• Vision screening training.
• Computer literate with experience documenting in an EMR.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a friendly, professional, and courteous demeanor.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities.
• Ability to establish positive rapport with patients and coworkers.
• Must be comfortable performing hands-on patient care and using medical equipment.
• Ability to work weekends if required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and assist with patient transfers as required by the position.
