Senior Buyer (Packaging)

Location: Pontiac, MI Area | 100% Onsite | Direct Hire

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer (Packaging) to lead packaging procurement and indirect materials sourcing across multiple manufacturing locations in North America.

This role is ideal for a procurement professional with strong packaging sourcing experience, automotive manufacturing knowledge, and multi-site purchasing experience. You will work closely with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and packaging engineering groups to optimize cost, quality, and supply reliability.

What You’ll Do

• Manage procurement activities for packaging materials including corrugated, returnable containers, dunnage, pallets, labels, and related supplies.
• Support multiple manufacturing locations across North America with packaging sourcing strategies.
• Partner with packaging engineering teams to ensure sourcing decisions support product design, quality, and operational requirements.
• Develop and execute packaging category strategies focused on cost optimization, supplier performance, and supply continuity.
• Manage supplier relationships including sourcing, qualification, negotiations, contracts, pricing, and performance reviews.
• Monitor market trends for packaging materials including paper, plastics, wood, and other commodities.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and delivery expectations.
• Maintain purchasing documentation, supplier records, spend analysis, and KPI reporting.
• Provide leadership updates on sourcing initiatives, supplier risks, savings opportunities, and supply chain performance.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• 5+ years of procurement, purchasing, or strategic sourcing experience.
• Strong background managing packaging materials and indirect purchasing categories.
• 2+ years of automotive manufacturing experience.
• Experience supporting multiple plants or multi-site manufacturing operations.
• Strong negotiation, supplier management, contract management, and cost analysis skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
